When I bought my 4.0FW in February 2004 there was little difference between the price of the FW and that of the original Wide - $3,250 vs around $3,000 - and Wides are not plentiful. Finding Bay IV filters is a problem, and the cost of the Bay IV lens hood for the 4.0FW is unjustifiable, in my opinion. I bit the bullet and bought one though - for $250.
The 4.0FT is a different matter for those of us who wish to use our cameras, because Teles are comparatively easy to find. As I remarked in (there was a url link here which no longer exists) you could buy a Tele with both Rolleinars, a Maxwell screen, and full lens and body CLA for much less than the 4.0FT. The original Tele uses Bay 3 hoods and filters, which are far easier to get than Bay IV - I haven't seen a Bay IV hood listed yet for the 4.0FT, but I guess that one will become available. In the early days of the 4.0FW there were more FWs than there were lens hoods for it. The comparatively close-focusing ability of the 4.0FT does make it attractive - it depends on how much of a hindrance one finds the Rolleinar 0.35.
Best,
Helen
