Looks real good Sean. I would like to throw out a couple of suggestions.
If not already planned, fill the remaining "white space" on the left of the current posting list below the recent articles list. It's a little thing but all that white space is visually annoying.
I think you need to have a spot on the front page that says something to the effect "Benefits of subscribing listed here" or "5 Reaons to Subscribe to APUG"
then link off of that the the subscriber page. This will do two things. First, most new time users will go to the page if it is prominently displayed just to read it. Second, once those reasons are in their mind, they are more apt to subscribe, especially when they are reminded every time they come to the site with that flag on the home page.
I know you don't want to hit people over the head with the subscription thing but I think it needs better displayed to remind new visitors and non-subscribing members about that option.
