I like the new layout, but ya know ... it bugs me that the darkest tonal value in the menu bar and the APUG logo isn't maximum black. I feel like I need to put my monitor back in the developer or the APUG exposure wasn't long enough or something.

Not bad the new design
The chatroom was fading into oblivion, the designs reflects it.
I liked the direct links to the gallery and such withot pull-downs, but I guess I'll just have to get used to the new design

Good job Sean

In the left sidebar if you click the text "Latest Gallery Photo" that's a direct link to the gallery too..

I noticed something pretty cool about the latest photo thing, somebody posts a shot while you are browsing and you see it right away. I like that.

I find the left sidebar distracting and it clutters what was an elegant interface. I would vastly prefer to have it on the right, if possible.

It would also be nice if users could choose for themselves which forums or galleries would appear in the sidebar.

All IMHO of course.

Sorry guys, but I'm finding the dropdown menu to get to the Galleries and the 'click the photo on the left' approach quite clumsy (because it only takes you to the particular gallery that photo was uploaded to). Any chance of a gallery button in the main menu bar so we can access the galleries with a single click?

As I said... have to learn to cope with the new format

Unfortunately this is not my computer and the Mrs' won't let me do a whole lot. Ive tried to explain that IE isn't really for Mac OS anyversion but well it's hers so I can't argue.
Would it be possible to get the logoff button put somewhere not on a drop down menu for us software challenged folks? I've never been able to use any of the dropdown menus on APUG. This is the first time I've never been able to work around it.
Still can't logoff, hope that doesn't affect anything.

Love the cleaner new look though!

I just had a look on IE on my mac and the site is pretty screwed up, but since it tests fine in practically every browser other than that mac IE I don't really have a way to redevelop just for that obscure browser. Firefox is a small download and one of the most widely used browsers for mac, keep working on her! As for a temporary fix you can make a few IE bookmarks:

for your logout create a bookmark to:
(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

for your control panel create a bookmark to:
(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

I added a new link in the recent gallery photo box, near the bottom it now says "Enter the Gallery", maybe that is close enough for everyone..

That's excellent! Thanks sean.

Simple, elegant, user friendly design. The dr bob quote in the masthead is a nice touch!

Hello all, I will be switching over to the new site design soon. I anticipate several tweaks that will need to be made so please be patient while I iron out the kinks. If you have any major problems you can post them in this thread.

Thanks! Sean

Two comments--

When responding to a thread (with quote as I am doing here), the box I type in is all the way to the left of the screen. Was it like this before? Somehow, I feel crowded! Is there a way to make it more centered?

Second, in the ads, you show the user but not information like how many posts, etc. I think the old classifieds showed that. Perhaps I am shallow, but I always look at how many posts a person has made when I look at an ad. I just trust someone more who has a track record and some reputation to keep.

Just a couple of thoughts.

Hi, fixed New Thread & New Reply. As for the user info on the ads page I'll need to change some code, will have a try later. Thanks for the feedback!

Sean, when I click on the pictures in the ads to "supersize" it just brings the thumbnail up in a new window. Is this a setting on my PC or has this changed with the new format?

I saw the same thing. Now it looks better--the picture in the new window is big!

Do you have to pay royalties to MacDonald's for using the phrase "supersize"?

I'll take the cool old lens that Jim Galli is selling, with an extra large fries and large coke!

I like the new design. Maybe a bit top heavy with the last day posts coloums but I wasn't aware you were going to change things and did not have trouble adapting to your site.

The only thing I would like to see changed is the top tool bar. I would like to see a button for the galleries which drops down with the various galleries we have. The galleries are my favorite part of APUG and I go there first.

If you are seeing those last day post columns at the top you must be using IE5 which doesn't work well at all with the site, you should upgrade to firefox assuming you are using a mac..

One thing I haven't figured out is how to set your view of the classifieds to "most recent". I understand how to re-sort, but I'd like it to default to "most recent".

Just noticed the 'Recent Comments' list at the bottom of the gallery page. Was that there before? Great addition if it wasn't!

Works like a charm! Of course I had to log back in to tell you that.

And I'll keep working on upgrading the wife... uhmmm I mean the wife's computer... .
I'd like to quote titrisol and say "you da Man!"
Thanks Sean!
