NEW SILVER CHLORIDE CONTACT PRINTING PAPER

I applaud Adox for coming out with new products for us to use.
Recently CHS II in 120 and sheet film sizes, now a silver chloride contact printing paper.
It's wonderful to see new products for film photography and printing.

Agree strongly. And as a sometimes contact printer of 8x10 negatives, this new product definitely has my attention. I've already searched Freestyle's site for "Lupex" just to tickle their product searching metrics.

Adox's other paper I am familiar with, MCC110, is somewhat different from but just as good as Ilford's offerings, and from Freestyle is comparably priced, as I'd expect.

Both papers are worth what they cost.

We could make this on request. Our usual price sturcture is that after 4 or 5 boxes the price is the same as a regular size and below we add the costs of programming the machine.

I spoke with Freestyle today and they will put in special orders, but at this time they need to see enough demand for it to be financially viable. As they said, "If we get multiple special orders for this paper, we may possibly stock it in the future. Currently it is price prohibitive."

Adox MCC paper is my absolute favorite. I expect great things from Lupex. Hope to see a semi-matte version one day, or at least different grades. Nevertheless, I am excited to place an order for this paper.

If Freestyle places a special order to gauge interest, I will place a retail order to try it out. I did the same with the Fuji-Hunt 5-liter E-6 kit when Freestyle trial-stocked it, and now that seems to have become a regularly available item?

I believe it's important to support ADOX when they go out on a limb with a new product, and that product is potentially useful to me. But I can't know how useful it is until I actually try it.

By this point in time the ratio of new products to discontinued products across the entire analog photographic industry must be vanishingly small. So everything new deserves a good faith look, I think.

It will be sent as a regular postal service letter. The downturn is that there is no trackability and the letter might get slightly bent or damaged. But this way you can try out the paper no matter where you are and then make a better decision on a possible purchase of a larger amount.

For those interested, Lupex, Azo, and Lodima are all virtually identical.

I have seen Lodima and it is very neutral to cold from my memory.

I would like to hear from some who have used Lupex or Lodima as to how to warm or cool these papers. I am purchasing some Lodima and would like to try Lupex but
if they are identical why bother.

bob we should be happy there is a new source of azo paper. the lodima folks may not be around forever or have the resources to produce it; for all we know it's the same paper....regardless more choices=better photography

I'm not Ken, but, FYI, when I ordered some paper from FOTOIMPEX late last year, it went to the "postal service" (which was DHL), then slowly made its way to a facility at Frankfurt airport, where it sat for a week, then finally completed the rest of its journey to me in another several business days. So, if you're anxious, don't be.

Not yet, no. I received email notification on 3/22 informing me that the order had shipped that day. Sal's experience is likely a good template. Especially as this was free shipping, which I consider a generous offer by ADOX. The notification also references DHL.

I'm in no particular rush. I won't even be upset if it arrives a little bent. It's just a good and inexpensive way to get an initial look.

Just hang a bare light bulb above your contact frame and go from there.

Or, if you have no contact frame, just find a sheet of black sheet foam from the hardware store,* and a sheet of common window glass. Then use those on a darkroom counter below a bulb.

To avoid Newton rings under the glass you can apply a very light coating of common plain hair spray to one side of the sheet. The dried microscopic spray dots on the glass will provide sufficient separation from the negative to prevent the rings. And you won't be able to see the dots in the final print.

* Fred Meyer (a chain of retail stores in the Pacific Northwest) sometimes has 2-inch thick black foam sheets available in the hardware section. That's where I got mine.

Thanks Sal and Ken for the feedback. Yeah, I saw it was DHL and my past experience with them leads me to believe that this package will move along slowly. I'm only a little anxious and it's already starting to heat up here in the desert southwest and I can't print during the summer months; darkroom is simply too hot and trying to keep chemicals at some reasonable temp is impossible. No matter...if it arrives too late I'll freeze it until next winter.
