Tonight I added a page all about an adventure with a Graflex 3A Postcard 3¼X5½ format 122 rollfilm, gigantic curtain shutter camera. Restoration (of a sort) and first fruit images.

Still, a pretty nice end result for a "throw away" camera you bought just for the lens...

Lol, I think the insanity is enough for this particular camera. But there's plenty left for others. Insanity that is.

Richard, all I had were the empty spools. But I consider myself lucky to at least have the spools. It would be hard to make it work at all if you didn't even have empty spools. And yeah, this thing has been obsolete probably longer than 60 years, although Kodak was phenomenal about keeping 122 film available long after the cameras that required it were all finished. Wouldn't that be nice . . . !

Thanks! I do too! It's sort of like an elongated 4X5. Squashed and stretched. If the film was available, it would be like a poor man's 7X11 format. But alas . . .

I wonder if Ilford would roll some up for us once a year if we asked. If 122 film was available, I'll bet a bunch of these old cameras would come out of slumber and get used. It's a fun camera, and the screen is big enough for even a half blind guy like me. (although too many of my pics were fuzzy <rolleyes> )

As someone who's just getting started with LF , I just wanted to say thanks sharing the inspirational photos and your knowledge on this this subject. I'll probably never get there but, I have something to aim for.

Thanks. Now I'm curious about the Aviphot film. Wondering if it's almost infrared or something. It sure sees the green leaves as brighter than what seems normal.

You want a really random, obscure, obsolete film format, go look up 129. I just ran across it while searching for an antique folder by matching a photo (in dim light, at a bad angle for details -- it took some looking).

Roughly halfway between 127 and 120 width, with an oblong format close to the 3:2 ratio. Should be possible to feed, if you have an adjustable slitter like Jim does -- at least you can cut down and reuse 120 backing paper, if you can find two spools.

My web pages have gone missing now for 3 weeks. The service that I have paid for 20 years to host my little web site seems to have vanished. I fear that 20 years of effort and a valuable resource may be lost. No one answers the phone in Utah where the money went for 20 years.

That's very upsetting. I hope its a temporary glitch and that it can be resolved.

I had your problem 15 years ago. From one day to the next the server host went off the grid. I lost a decade of online articles. Thank goodness for the waybackmachine. Since then, I pay hosting at 60 km from where I live. If there's a problem, I can physically visit them (never needed to in 15 years).

My domain name host (Gandi.net, $15 a year) is SEPARATE from my server host and has proven extremely reliable. Should there ever be a problem, I can upload backups of my sites to a new server host, link the domain name to the new server, and everything is up and running again within hours.
