New Pacific Image Prime Film 120 Scanner Experience?

I see that this unit is on sale at B&H now on a 7-14 day order basis. That suggests that one could actually get one, or get one pretty soon. Has anyone done so? What are the experiences like? I'd like a solution for 120 film.

Ouch!! That's more $$ than I expected it to be...

I'd love to see a good, comprehensive, detailed review (and not one that's just a re-fluffing of the mfr's sell sheet). The PrimeFilm 7250 Pro3 isn't a bad scanner, either. I just hope that for this price, it has a true 3200 DPI, and multi-sampling, instead of just multi-scanning. And interestingly, while the 7250 has ICE/ROC/GEM, the 120 has...something else, "Magic Touch".

Happy I jumped on one of the last batches of LS-9000's.

I really wish someone (if it were Nikon, all the better) would come out with a Coolscan 10000 but I fear the chances of that are close to nil. I'm very glad I got my 9000 when I did. If I can someday get my work to sell the old 9000 in their storeroom to me I will be even happier (though I am not holding my breath). I wonder if we will ever see a good scanner made again?

I always wonder about parts, service, and durability for these lesser-known companies. IIRC, Pacific Image is based in Taiwan.

There was a similar question posted on RFF last month. No personal experience from users but maybe some additional info you can glean about the company.

What are the purported advantages over the Epson V700/750? I've been using the V700 for 3 years on 120 and 4x5, and have found the very positive reviews to be substantiated in my hands. (I'm not affiliated in any way with Epson).

Most people regard the V700/V750 as being a very good scanner, but in practice, only capable of about 2400 DPI of real resolution. If the optical quality of the PrimeFilm 120 can achieve a true 3200 DPI, coupled with (presumably) autofocus ability, and decent D-Max (with low noise) then it is a significant step up from the flatbeds, albeit at a significant price premium.

That's why I said I'd love to see a detailed, comprehensive, analytical review, instead of just re-publishing the manufacturers selling points and adding "I scanned a couple of pictures, and it looks good to me." at the end. That's the only way we'll know for sure, since I don't think anyone here is willing to drop $2000 just to try it out.

Are you talking about the brick-shaped Plustek 7200-7600 series? Those do only 35mm you know. I've read a number of reviews on them. Just go to Amazon -- there are tons there. Generally, it is well received. It's worth noting, though, if you want to scan at the max non-interpolated dpi setting -- 7200 - 7600, I'm supposing -- it takes about 4 minutes per slide or negative.

Aaaargh...I wrote Plustek, but I meant PrimeFilm. Sorry to muddy the waters. I've used a Plustek 7500. It's decent, given the price, but 35mm only, one frame at a time, and no AF (at least on the 7500), but that's not what we're talking about here...
