while many of the older colour films were based on the older AGFA formulas, Ferrania, aiming at the private label market, were producing film compatible with the Kodak processes.

This is true for the 1950s "ferraniacolor" films of ISO 16 (if i recall correctly) sensitivity, which predate the purchase of Ferrania by 3M (1964)

With Street Pan, JCH has been selling an inferior 400 BW film at prices matching or exceeding those of premium products from Kodak and Ilford, successfully I assume.
No reason he should not try to repeat the same business model with color film.

To claim it is for the love of film is somewhat dubious as you can just abuse film from some of the serious players if you want weird results.
Buying from the serious players is more likely to sustain long term availability and healthy business models IMO.

Thats a good advise. My dollars mostly go to Ilford (film) and Kodak (chemistry), as well as some Foma(either Fomapan or Arista Edu) and Maco (Rollei RPX 400).

I disagree. All the 'serious' players have done is continually raise their prices while cutting back on their offerings.

Buying from others - no matter where they source their film from - creates competition. And one very important thing - all the "non serious" players are actively marketing which brings interest into the film market, which brings new users in.
What kind of marketing has Kodak, Fuji or Ilford done to appeal to new users?

Some of Koda's "new" products had been advertised on general photography site (like Petapixel) so I think they had done their share of advertising (products like Ektachrome and Kodak Gold 200). On the other hand, Ilford/Harman is behind some of the "other" films (probably some of Rollei offerings).

Yes, my dear friend, I totally agree with you.
Everything you said is 100% true.

I said before a saying that I find very important.

- I will not care much about the quality of the product, even if the Lucifer films are not of high quality, I will also buy from him in order to encourage him to improve his products in the future in order to help him become a competitor to the rest of the arrogant manufacturers, especially the company ((( arrogant Fuji)),
When Fuji company feels that the Lucifer factory for the production of photographic films is starting to get a not bad share of the analog photography market, it will inevitably be forced to consider what it offers, and it will inevitably make some offers or maybe lower its prices a little or something like that kind.
- And so will Kodak, and therefore there will be competition, and that competition will benefit the amateur photographer.
- But what is happening now between Fuji and Kodak, I can almost assert that it is considered collusion in order to control the analog market in a manner that is almost in agreement between them.

I agree they were behind Fuji, Kodak and Agfa, technologically. That we can agree.
According to my information, they were the real maker of Konica films, and when the Italian company stopped at the same time Konica also stopped, and that was around 2006
But their relationship with Fuji was hidden.
Fuji was a black and white film manufacturer, and in a day and night it was producing color film without any prior research, followed by Scamura, Mitsubishi, and then Konica, was that telepathic? ! Of course impossible
And when I asked about it, I was told that there was a sale of scientific technology, research results, and secret recipes under the table.
And those formulas, recipes, and patents basically come from ORWO.
In my personal opinion, the only company in the world that relied on its scientists and researchers to produce color film from scratch after Agfa and Kodak is Ilford (in the period when it was making color film),

Would you point out an example of Fuji being arrogant? I have never found them so either professionally nor personally. In fact I have not come across an arrogant film or camera company, perhaps some making bad business decisions thinking that what they did in the past was good enough for the future, but not arrogant.

I don't know about their slides, but their Solaris (C41) was all Agfa.

Are you claiming Ferrania was using Agfa formulas to produce Solaris, or that Agfa was actually manufacturing it for them? To be honest, I don’t find either credible. Ferrania Solaris did not look like an Agfa C41 film.

Do you represent that company in one way or another, are you its spokesperson?
Many behaviors that indicate that it is an arrogant company.

- (The Egyptian Analog Society) wants to make a group purchase, and we decided to buy 5,000 rolls of all categories,, and we want to get a good discount,,,
We elected someone to represent us, and that person went to speak to the official representative of Fuji in Egypt and applied for the sales department.

- The representative of Fuji in Egypt addressed Fuji (the regional branch in Dubai), and the regional branch, in turn, addressed the parent company in Japan.
We have been waiting for a response from Japan for nearly five weeks, and in the end the response came:
They refused to give us any discount or special offer at all. On the contrary, they said that they would increase the prices by a percentage (I don't remember the percentage, but it was probably 10%)...

It happened less than two years ago.

You can do a poll on it..
Do you think Fuji is an arrogant and evil company?
Yes or no ..
Do that poll first and I bet you will be amazed by the poll results

No company is obligated to discount the price of their products. I am sorry that you were disappointed with their response. Perhaps you need to contact a wholesaler.

Did the members of the Egyptian Analog Society stop buying Fuji film as a result? If so, what film are they buying instead?

It was the first announcement of the guys restarting Ferrania. Look it up, you sure will find it somewhere, as the net doesn't forget.

They never said such a thing. You can still go to their original Kickstarter page and read what they said.

Well, I got a reply from a Fuji manager in Japan, in the days of airmail letters, on my inquiry on a certain Minilab accessory, to never bother him again, in a most rude tone. A similar reply I got not that long ago, from a Fuji PR manager in Europe. I never was treated this way by any other film manufacturer.

The majority now prefers a black and white film for the most part. The most used film is to buy a large Foma reel and pack it into cassettes of 24 frames.
The same is the case with ECN2 reels. There are expired ones, and they are cheap, and there are fresh ones.
All of the above is related to the economic saving films.
But other categories of films are also available, but of course they are somewhat expensive compared to economic films.
- Fuji in Egypt is a very difficult thing to get. After that, I told you about the situation.

My dear, Kodak is a respectable company, greed is not among its goals.
But Fuji was founded on greed and greed as a way of life. The founders of that company instilled these evil principles in the heart of every employee.
Excuse me, why did you ask?
Do you have stock you want to sell?

Which wholesaler are you talking about?
Hey man, we have sent a request to the board of directors of the parent company in Japan through the official agent in Egypt, accompanied by a recommendation from the regional office of Fuji in Dubai..
What do you want then,,?
The regional office of Fuji in Dubai is the one who heads all the wholesalers in the Middle East and North Africa.

Mr. Glass can't believe it, dressed as the attorney for the Fuji Chairman. (Maybe he has an affinity relationship with them).

Fuji, this has always been their way of life, arrogance and impoliteness.

- The Russians don't even deal with clients like that at all, they were very kind and tried to help me in various ways.

I sent a letter to Agfa in 2008 to inquire about something, they answered me in Arabic, and I found an employee who speaks Arabic and apologizes to me in a very polite manner and said we are very sorry and feel very sad because the company's board of directors has taken a decision to liquidate works of analog photography, and he gave me the phone number of the official authorized agent who was the custodian of the Analog Photography Department, almost a German trader.
. I sent them a letter thanking them for their interest and polite and friendly response.

Perhaps arrogant is the wrong word but it is clear Fuji has little interest in maintaining film production apart from Instax. They keep putting prices up and cutting stock claiming it is not viable. Kodak on the other hand has re/introduced a number of films: E100, TMax 3200, Gold in 120. Obviously prices have been going up but at least they do show some commitment. Ilford does its thing, Lomo, Cinestill and a few other smaller players all seem to find a little niche to introduce new products. Not Fuji though, somehow they can't seem to find a gap or are simply not interested.

Fair play to them, nobody has to make or sell anything. I've got 14 sheets of Provia, once they're gone that's gone and I'll get some E100 instead.

Since you said the Egyptian Analog Society wanted to buy 5000 rolls of each of Fuji's products, I assumed the members like Fuji products, and I was curious if members had stopped using Fuji products because Fuji would not give them a discount.

Did you make similar requests of other film manufacturers and if so what were their responses? Did Kodak, Lomo, and Cinestill give you some discounts?

Lets remember that Fuji is not your old uncle/friend/etc. They are a business. And as such, they are interested on margins and profits. Nothing else.

They should be the ones looking for my money, not the other way around. If they don't want my money the other guys would likely do it. I've been shooting film since 1983, and honestly I don't remember ever using any Fuji film at all. Perhaps a random color roll on a weekend but not on purpose.

I wouldn't call them arrogant. Perhaps foolish company? Turning away your customer doesn't seems like a good business practice.

Find the middle man or men who supply the larger photo supplies in your country. The people the manufactures sell to and then sell to the stores.

Yeah, good advise. Probably reach your local country customer service and ask for the local distributor. I've done this on the past with some non photography items and had good experiences.

Normally big companies don't like dealing with individual customers. They even consider it bad practice since they would damage their supply chain. One person/group would buy once, while their dealers are a constant costumer. Agree, it would't hurt them to be polite but normally a manufacturer would turn down an individual request. They usually refer to a local dealer.

Also, not sure if Fuji is know for doing custom orders like Ilford/Harman or Foma. Fuji has other priorities and don't think they find it profitable.

Assuming of course, that Fuji is actually doing manufacturing runs right now for film.
