Hey! I think this looks promising, I’ve used color perfect but the UI is really bad. Another thing is that I have to get two licenses to use it on my Mac and my pc. I have a pc at home with a 35mm scanner and a MacBook Pro that I bring to my darkroom where there is a flatbed.

Is that the case with your action as well?

Hi!
Of course not, you can download and use it on as many devices as you want.
What you really pay for is my time spent making and perfecting the action, as well as my help with scanning!

Just a quick follow-up. I scanned about fifteen negatives this evening and they all converted easily and quickly. Mostly one click with no adjustments. I tried the same thing with a couple of them in color perfect and ended up with worse results which took twenty times as long.

I despise scanning, but I’m still very, very impressed!

I was supposed to try it out today but for some reason all my linear scans from Vuescan comes out overexposed.. Since its raw i cant find any way to change anything, any ideas?

Im so tired of scanning...

It could be any number of things, please send me a message with a link to one of your .tif scans and I'll be glad to look into it.
You can also resize it to 1000px on the long edge to make it smaller for uploading.

Just to report that I've found the macro to work very well with Affinity Photo. My DSLR scans come out more saturated and a bit too contrasty compared to my usual conversion method, but it's easily fixed after the fact and I think I just need to tweak my scanning setup for this new method. Very happy with the results! It also does great doing batch converts in Affinity, much faster than Photoshop.

Also, because Affinity Photo for Mac and iPad share the same codebase, you can import the macros into the iPad version and it works! I was surprised, and I'm not sure how often I would use it, but it works great and conversion is almost instant on my 9.5" iPad Pro.

Thanks for making this!

The reason for the contrast / saturation increase on DSLR scans are probably because they are non-linear, but should only need adjusting of gamma. I'm sure the workflow can be improved further.

As for Affinity, I'm really amazed that it works on iPad. I had no idea! That's very cool.
I've come to prefer it myself over Adobe, after getting used to some quirks.

What a nasty, ignorant thing to say. The OP is not at fault for Adobe's high prices, and he is obviously putting a lot of work into developing his plugin. Why should he give it to you?
calm down Kojak;he doesn't need to give it to me;I don't even want it. I gave him an honest answer to his question; neither arrogant nor nasty.

I've just updated my color negative film inversion action for Photoshop to version 1.6.

New in this version is a completely new film gamma adjustment that is much more neutral and balanced, providing better shadow and highlight detail.

Other parts of the action have been updated as well, with better initial color balance and an extra option for lifting shadow values.

Hello Adrian,

could you tell me how to update the plugin. I bought it a while ago, and this should mean I can use al upgrades, but I don't know how to do this. Going to your website only gives the option to purchase again.

Thanks,
Dani

If I'm not mistaken, the download link is just right at the bottom of the page.

You should have received a new Email with the update.
If not, the original download link you have will always link to the latest version!

I ran the action and tried the optional Shadow enhancement but it seems like it's not working on it's current sequencing or just missing another step before "Set current layer..". I have to run the "Select the Gamma layer" step, then go back one step to be able to run "Set current layer..", otherwise an error would pop-up "The command 'Set' is not currently available".

Thanks,
Raoul

It's not a shadow enhancement, it's just a tool in case the base sampling was not done properly, sometimes useful for night shots.

I will investigate the issue!

In photoshop to get it to work you first need to unlock the group and then unlock the base colour layer, it should then work

No feedback yet? I suppose I can run some tests today comparing the results with the previous version.

That would be nice! From the feedback I have received so far the newer version seems to be working very nicely for everyone. In many cases only slight adjustments of the film gamma layer are needed.

Magenta/yellow color filters are turned off for the sake of this comparison.

Just out of curiosity I've looked up a version of the last photo I did with ColorPerfect:

Overall I think the new version is more balanced, but v.1.4 can easily give that high-key look which is sometimes welcome. I think I'll keep both versions for now.

To be frank, this isn't a fair comparison of CP to your action because this isn't CP's default preset. I've tweaked the settings to taste quite a bit here.

Hi Adrian

Thanks for working on this. Any updates on compatibility with Photoshop CS2?
