From their Instagram:

Dear Film Community,

It has come to our attention that discussions have started to spread across forums regarding the insolvency of Seal 1818 GmbH, FilmoTec GmbH and InovisCoat GmbH.

We would like to allay any concerns and stop any rumours.

Today, the courts have officially agreed our plans for an organised management financial restructuring, something that has been months in the planning and that we have committed a large investment to support.

We decided to do this so that we can quickly and successfully introduce new working practices, customers and products; which would have been challenging or impossible, due to legacy issues and agreements, that prevented the company from trading the way it needed to (including working with our own ORWO name and Logo, as well as releasing our full range of products under our brand).

We have recently teased the release of new film stocks and we can now confirm that our new colour cine film will be released in July, with our new black and white 100 ASA film coming before that — with shipping expected in April. More information on each of the stocks and how to pre-order will be coming very soon.

This is a brand-new and incredibly exciting chapter in ORWO’s rich history, and we are so excited to develop the company and brand that we are all so passionate about.

Welcome to the analogue revolution.

Best wishes,

The ORWO Team.

As much as I like Kodak film stocks, I am relieved that another producer will soon be available!

I hope this works out for ORWO!

Here's some more details from their history page (which has some sketchy information to begin with): https://www.orwo.wtf/about

"In 2020 ORWO FilmoTec was brought came under common ownership with film coating company InovisCoat, based in Monheim am Rhein, Germany to offer products for the film industry under the traditional brand “ORWO”, both companies sharing AGFA heritage. In particular the new ownership structure with FilmoTec and InovisCoat together with a number of other companies unites the ORWO brand, its Intellectual Property, Recipes and Research & Development with Film Manufacturing capabilities for the first time since ORWO AGs liquidation in 1994.
InovisCoat was founded by former employees of the consumer film division of Agfa-Gevaert, with its film coating plant based at Leverkusen, Germany which was spun off into a new company Agfa-Photo in 2004. The company (Agfa-Photo GmbH) folded a year later in 2005, although a separate holding company still retains the license rights to the Agfa-Photo brand. InovisCoat brought together technical expertise in film emulsions and coating with acquisition of one of the former Leverkusen wide coating machines for film production, and a smaller narrow coating machine for testing, relocated to new premises in Monnheim on Rhein, the new smaller scale facility capable of multi-layer film coating for both photographic and other applications. It undertakes the manufacture of coated films for a number of companies including Polaroid B.V. and more recently ORWO FilmoTec."

Interestingly a most of it is copied directly from the wikipedia article about Orwo... but i guess saved them the effort of writing it themselves.

still positive news nonetheless. Will be interesting to see if the film is a custom coating or un54 confectioned for still use, with orwo branding.

Well as film consumers we all hope for the best but I do wonder given the circumstances of insolvency that the announcement stemmed from whether we can assume that what they promise will happen is a certainty to happen. It was almost as if the insolvency was a means of achieving the end of objective which was always the aim

The announcement on another thread has a hint of making a virtue out of a necessity. We know of politicians who no matter what is the reality can always see "green shoots" of new growth and we are rightly sceptical. We may need to apply a little of that scepticism to this announcement

It's not really necessary. If they end up out of business and make no new film, it just won't be available to buy.

This is likely an attempt to stir interest - to get that big money bump from people who, for example, bought three rolls of new Ektachrome and never used or developed them and will never buy any more but were excited by the hype and the promise of something newly vintage....
