When eaten raw, it's extremely sour. My dad used to cut them up in slices which he dipped in baking soda (bicarb) to neutralize the acid. Then it was quite palatable. Cooked and served with custard it makes a great dessert. Quince jam or jelly is quite popular over here.Yes and it's very important to eat it with a runcible spoon

Yes it is, my grandmother in Spain used to make some delicious quince marmalade, goes amazing with cheese, especially blue cheese.I could be wrong, but my understanding is that it is used in some marmalade recipes.
California does have agricultural inspection stations at road entry points to the state - it's not about protectionism, as there are no customs or tariffs on taking things from one state to another (Except alcohol due to our Puritan heritage). In practice though, the road inspection stations are more about commercial quantities than about individuals with a handful of fruit. I've never been inspected in a passenger car.
When I lived in Los Angeles 20+ years ago there were signs along some freeways that said "NO BACKYARD FRUIT MOVING", which took me a while to figure out. I don't know if they are still there, and the orange industry has largely moved far outside of LA, but at the time they were still concerned about even moving pests from one end of the county to another.
This is not correct unless you cleared US customs from your departure airport. It's common in Canada, and maybe others, but I've never cleared US customs in London. Once you come into contact with any hold baggage, you have lost your "cleared by security" status and need to be re-screened.
I've cleared US customs in Toronto and then flown to Denver via Chicago. The Chicago transfer happens without re-screening.
Yeah, we can learn so much more, so much more easily now, via the internet...including falsehoods and misrepresentationsMy Customs Canada experience pre-dated the internet, and the encyclopedia at home was no help.
That is how they catch people trying to sneak in a recently killed chicken in their carry-on!
With the film now in Europe, I sure hope I can get over there ok given the Covid explosion.
If there are enough pessimists, that will not happen (that the film gets there but he does not).Matt… don’t give that thought life!

No idea.I'm planning to travel to Canada soon. so I'm wondering what their policy of "hand check" is. Any idea?
No idea.
But here is Canada Border Services' contact form: https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/contact/csform-formulairesc-eng.html[/QUO
Thanks for that. I've sent a query.
Opens up a whole new discussion of the power of a collective will, doesn't it?If there are enough pessimists, that will not happen (that the film gets there but he does not).
Hello everyone, I have some updates.
I am now in the Faroe Islands after some crazy travel days. Of course I am vaccinated and tested negative for Covid two days before leaving as requested by Iceland / Iceland Air. I traveled through the following airports and had no issues with asking for a hand check on my carry on 20 rolls of 120 film:
Aspen Airport / hand check
Denver Airport / hand check
Reykjavik / connection / no hand check needed
Copenhagen Airport / canceled flight to Faroe due to high wind, had to re-check in this morning / hand check
My Fedex package arrived last week in the Faroes and Smyril Line Cargo received it and kept it safe. I put an Apple Airtag in it and had 100X better tracking that way. Upon picking it up, I saw that Taks had inspected it so I am feeling good about no x-ray enroute, the package was marked well with Danish and English no x-ray warnings.
I decided to book this all at business class in order to get priority on everything, boarding, seating and especially baggage. This worked really well in my favor in all regards and I am glad I did it.
So now…..I relax and get ready for two months of dynamic weather and amazing photo opportunities. Nap time…![]()

What or who is Taks (customs?), and how can you be sure the package was not x-rayed? Because your package had been opened?
