I completely agree with your conclusion Sandy. I was surprised that you maintained your dialog as long as you had. People that maintain a high personal standard (and inherently hold others to the same lofty standard) will eventually link in with others that feel the same way. To this end point this group will grow and prosper via the productive interaction of knowledge and experiences. That is why I tune in.

You have been highly considerate in sharing your experiences and encouraging feedback in all productive forms and the majority of us have been the better for the experience. In all the years I have never seen you not answer a question or assist beyond the "call of duty" for the up and coming within the photographic community. For anyone to say otherwise is just flat out wrong because it is simply not true. The small number of malicious comments are the result of a single individual and clearly way out of line. We all know who the idiot is and will steer clear of him in all aspects.

Keep the brain waves attenuating and we will all be the better for it. Looking forward to marvelous image making and a glass of wine with a good meal after the sun goes down when we can get together!

Onward!

Jay has reformulated Hypercat recently by omitting ascorbic acid and increasing the concentration as follows:

Concentrate:
Catechol 25g
Propylene glycol to 100ml

Accelerator:
Potassium carbonate @ 5g/liter in the working solution

Recommended dilution is 1:500.

This thread is missing a huge chunk. I remember reading this years ago. I guess Jay and Sandy has their posts removed.
Or the moderators removed them because of intertwined "discussions" between them?:whistling:

I used Jay's earlier Hypercat 12 years ago or more. I recall saying "Wow!" when looking at the negatives it produced. I was still chasing the latest developer shiny toy at the time and didn't already have my own solid process. I do now, with HC 110. It's more earth shattering to say "wow!" about a new process when you've already firmly established other chemistry in an old process. Now that I know what I am doing, would I still react in the same way after exposing a bit of film with my consistently understood equipment in something other than HC 110? I am interested in revisiting a pyro-based formula. Can someone post any sort of link to the latest manifestation of pyrocat?

Oh wait, the post immediately before mine ^^^^ ... except that the FB group in question has a grand total of 3 members, the set of which, I do not belong.

I was so absorbed in the Harry/Megan interview with Oprah

You might need to get your eyes tested.

yeah, I might. But then, I almost never go to the wasteland that is Facebook. I don't bother to actually read their pages. I just scan them. hence, missing "1.3k members'

So, good call out. I appreciate you for that.

But in fairness to me, that home picture really grabs the attention. Who cares about the trivial text below it

Post #27 in this thread gives Jay's reformulation of Hypercat in case you care about it.

Which were always quite heated! The Pyro Wars!

Are you referring to this?

https://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/showthread.php?61981-pyro-developer-but-which

Btw more than ten years past the Pyro wars, is there a consensus now on which is the better Pyro developer? Who gets the test of time award?

Yup. That's the one. Jay started it by completely snubbing Sandy's contribution of Pyrocat-HD, in my opinion...then Sandy threw a little bit of gasoline on the fire... I've used Jay's Hypercat, and Obsidian Aqua. Great developers, but stuck with Pyrocat-HD. There's no real consensus. It's what you prefer to use. Wouldn't want to start another war over just a film developer... silly.
