Dear film photographers, our new ADOX SCALA BW reversal kit is available now via our global distributor Fotoimpex.

The ADOX SCALA Kit only has two parts (plus an optional clear bath), radically simplifying the black&white reversal process. Simply mix the developer and bleach 1+1 with water, and get going!

The ADOX innovation in the new SCALA Process is the complete avoidance of dichromates and other corrosives. This is the only reversal kit which can be shipped worldwide.
Another achievement after three years of R&D is the very stable liquid bleach. Even in diluted form it can be stored for up to 8 weeks.
You can really process the promised 8 rolls of film with this kit, without having to fear the bleach getting exhausted before you have used all the rolls.
Opened, but undiluted bleach stays good for up to 16 weeks.

(The kit can generally reverse any b&w film, but only films with a elevated silver content and a clear base will create truly beautiful slides. Most films have a grey-ish base, which means the highlights of the slides will not be very brilliant. The kit has been tailored to work perfectly with ADOX SCALA films, and CMS 20 II looks great when reversed, too).

sounds like a real breakthrough. by any chance how does it work with the Foma R-100. I have several 16mm rolls that I hesitate t use as the movie film lab ruined a roll with terrible stains using the Kodak movie reversal process.

That is good news! For US customers, shipping from fotoimpex more than doubles the cost of the kit from a reasonable $5 per roll to $11 per roll.

@ADOX Fotoimpex: I checked MSDS of the reversal kit on Fotoimpex site. It has information only on the first developer and nothing on the bleach. Is this the complete MSDS or by mistake you've made only one part of it available? Can you kindly check and confirm?

Are you certain that the new kit will work well for Tri-X? Is there information on what films are compatible with the kit and what is the recommended development time?

@Raghu Kuvempunagar I doubt Adox is going to test every film out there. They state it is tailored for their Scala, but will reverse process any B&W film, although good results should only be expected from emulsions with higher silver content, and there are not that many these days. i suppose Ferrania would fall into this category, SIlvermax too, but is for what they have left waiting for final sale, maybe that expensive "new" Acros II.

So from Adox's admission any B&W will process, but all I read into this is that Scala is the only one they may be approached about/complained to, if results are not good.

@Raghu Kuvempunagar Well, yes. I would not expect extensive testing form any manufacturer. If things settle in, kit gets used for a while, we'll all share results processing different films, so we can all help guiding the world towards best combo outside of Scala film They also say CMS 20 film works out well too.

Then I miss the usefulness of a kit.
If I have to test myself all the films I'd better start with basic chemicals and formulate my own process, it's cheaper that way.
When I have to pay pay 39€ for a kit I pay also the manufacturer work of finding out the right development times for a particular film.
It's good thoug that Adox reversal kit work flawlessly with the Scala lineup, its another weapon in our arsenal.

@Alessandro Serrao Adox has already stated Scala and CMS 20 as tailored-for films adding, tany B&W film with higher silver content, in addition to ANY B&W film, the latter with not optimal results.

I don't recall a single product that could be potentially be used with variety of films and had been tested with all possibilities by the manufacturer, it's impossible and should not be expected. Think of the size of the task to do it AND inability to control what other film producers do with their own film production runs.

Enjoy making images, not testing yourself into a casket.

It's nevertheless a great option to have, especially for those who want to get started in reversal processing and don't mind buying Scala films for the same. DIY chemistry and testing can be quite intimidating to some.

I completely agree with you.
For the reasons you said I've strated to use more and more the Foma kit, with Fomapan R-100 and Fomapan 100 I get comparable results that are very good (I didn't expect to get such good result out of Fomapan 100). And for a price of 27€ is not too expensive too!
Every new well made kit is warmly welcomed of course.
I will try the Adox kit asap of course only with the two Adox Scala films available.

Unfortunately, in the US, the Foma kit sells for $67.79 - twice what you are paying. Hopefully shipping for the Adox product won't be a big cost.

try both kits and to contact directly Foma and see what are the shipping costs which I think are just equal to those of Fotoimpex.
I use the foma kit so I'm waiting to order the new Adox kit.
