For example, green color sensitometers would compare film's speed based on most film's sensitivity near the middle of their spectrums (see green line below). Pretty good estimate of speed for most photographer's needs from a $20 device compared to an EG&G that might cost near $1000 for a good working one these days. Again I have both and have tested them against each other.
