Bought new as end of range on line this little 4MP camera has served me well, especially snap shotting my real cameras and even negatives with a good back light. Still works but the pictures are nearly white which suggests the sensor has gone. What I really like was the proper view finder, something missing on all the latest pocket digitals.

Well it is time to look around the charity (thrift?) shops and boot fairs. Even the second hand camera shop will probably have something similar, with a viewfinder. 4MP is more than enough for on line pictures so hopefully there is something out there from one of the reputable names,

I must admit I was beginning to think digital cameras might be immortal, seems they are not.
If you can find one of the older canon digital elph cameras they used to come with an actual viewfinder. I think they were around 8 MP. Pretty sure the updated models did away with the viewfinder though. They had an 8x optical zoom which comes in handy.

I went on ebay and bid on three small digitals, minimum price and won two! First to arrive is a Fuji finePix A400 complete with a 64MB XD card. Very similar spec to the dead Canon, 4.1MP and a proper viewfinder. I swapped in my 128MB XD card and it is good for 60 odd pics. at finest setting. 64MP card is good for 50 at fine setting in the old FinePix 202.
Other than the poor movie performance they are better to use than a phone.
Camera awaited is an A430 same as the one that died.
I looked in a PC magazine at the newsagent and noticed a 'test' on a new compact portable from Olympus. Over 500 quid (GBP) and no viewfinder!!!!

Congratulations! I've always thought that a small digital camera would be nice to carry around as they often have decent optical zooms and fit nicely in a pocket. I sometimes carry my gopro for that reason but it certainly limits the type of photos I can take.

For pocket-size (large pocket) I use an old Samsung NX1000 with Samsung optical finder when shooting 19mm (equivalent to 24mm)...its. 20MP files are as good or better than film enlarged to my limit, which is 13X19. I've just obtained an NX500 , 28MP, which undoubtedly will make much larger prints..NX500 has big bright AMOLED screen which is great in bright light as well as at night. Modern times. Sadly Samsung quit cameras.

Well replacement A430 arrived and obviously had something missing that did not affect operation. Went to dud camera an found it was the small memory retention battery. Quick change and now date and other features are remembered. We'll two 4Mp pocket digital with proper viewfinders now. Better than the phone certainly.
