Same subject, two views.
The colour one from November 2020, and the black and white pinhole one from WWPD (April 30th) in 2023.

<Bump>

We are a bit over mid-month. Just a reminder to all to join in this month's MSA, "The Beauty Of Decay".

Let it be known that I have not submitted anything myself other than an example, since I am apparently to select a winner. But man, I've an an X-Ray of my left knee you should see ...

A scan of a print submitted to a print competition for APUG members conducted many years ago by Harman/Ilford. They liked it enough to award it an "Honourable Mention" 😲

This was shot on unfiltered 120 size Ilford SFX - a really interesting choice for those who appreciate grain with interesting character.

And a 2019 near-IR of the subject two posts earlier, on Ilford SFX with an R72 filter:

Old category, taken in 2019. Members from Northern California will recognize the S.S. Point Reyes.

Leica M5, Canon 50mm f/1.4 LTM, ORWO N74+, developed in LegacyPro L110 at 1:31 for 6.5 minutes.

I know the MSA is primarily about images (Mods, please feel free to edit if this appendix is off topic), but often the backstory is just as interesting. The S.S. Point Reyes shipwreck is a popular local landmark, but since 2019, the ship has decayed to a point that the National Park Service is considering its removal:

I believe I photographed the same boat approximately forty years ago when it was in somewhat better condition.

New.

Traffic Control Point.

The now defunct toll booth for one of our National Parks, Actually it's a Victorian state park, but we call them all National Parks. In the past someone had to stay in this booth in freezing or boiling conditions and collect the park entrance fee. All the parks in Victoria are now free entry, but there is a payment if camping, which is usually cheap if you have a long drop dunny, or expensive if you have a flushing toilet; such is life.

Point Lonsdale NP, Gunnamatta Beach entrance. I ventured down there last Thursday, quite a still day, cloudy with light drizzle at times. Apparently a perfect day to see whales as the sea was as smooth as anything; I didn't see any. Just surfers on the surf beach with a 3m swell.

I shot this a couple of months ago so it's in the 'Old' category.

This is an old one, November of last year. My co-workers wanted to jump off the bridge that connects the islands of Ofu and Olesega. I decided that wasn't a good idea on an island with no medical facilities so I went on a short hike to the abandoned village of Lalomoana. Ofu and Olesega are in the Manua islands of American Samoa. The skeleton of this abandoned home is is now just a feature in a beutiful overgrown jungle setting. Leica IIIc with a Summaron lens, Ilford FP4+ developed in Beer.

New (June 19th). These river rocks are slowly fracturing into a base for beautiful plant life. Kodak Retina IIA and Fuji Provia 100F expired 2014, developed in FPP E-6 kit.

One last bump. What do you have that's new or old that meets the MSA criteria this month? Do share.

@MattKing Just as a point of order, I think the distinction between new and old actually doesn't add a lot of value to this process. Whether the shooting assignment was completed today or 25 years ago, the real question is ... who has achieved the stated aesthetic. But that's just me and no one listens to me anyway ...

The distinction relates to the extra challenge involved in learning about the criteria and then completing the "Assignment" of photographing on film and developing that film in time to display it here within the month.
Until very recently, every MSA entry had to comply with that.
If I'm "judging", I'll give extra points for accomplishing that.
I'm hoping that we will see signs of the "judges" making three choices: Best New, Best Old, and between those two, Best Overall.

Well, there's been no sign of that. I have tried to give more weight to "new" entries than to "old" when judging, though (the times I had to choose).

Loccdor, that is one very nice picture, the colour is what really lifts it.

Not sure about those rocks being river rocks, most river rocks I've seen are almost always very rounded due to water flow.

Nonetheless, quite something.
