MSA March/April 2015 - "Stone"

I volunteered to choose the topic for the new Monthly Shooting Assignment ("MSA"), due to some complications with the last.

I was looking for something with a bit of controversy, so the topic for the March and April 2015 Monthly Shooting Assignment is "Stone".

If you are new to the MSA, the guidelines can be found at (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Any interpretation of "Stone" is okay, including the singular, the plural, and the alternative. Just be as creative as you want to be.

Most importantly:
1) The image itself must be made between March 1st and April 30, 2015; and
2) The image must be made with some sort of analogue (i.e. non-digital) light capturing piece of equipment (a camera?).

So go to it, and have fun.

Was so happy when you chose "Stone", Matt. This basalt formation was just outside of the town we were visiting in Panama. I've taken quite a few images, but haven't developed all the film yet.

I was at a war cemetery (1939-1945) and took some pictures of the head stones. And guess what name was on one of them ...
I also visited an old regular cemetery at a church.
I'll develop the film next week and hope some came out allright.
I was testing my new Mamiya C330f and it felt like a brick (and that is a positive thing to me).

At first I thought it would be crazy impossible. Then my boss called and said we were having a team meeting in Stamford.

So I couldn't resist...

We met up at Curley's Diner and talked for a couple hours. Since it was a Kodak team meeting I had to bring a Kodak camera, so I brought my best, the Retina I. Unfortunately I was already at the airport when I found the mainspring had stretched a coil. (I had a spare Retina I for parts at home and have since swapped mainsprings). But there wasn't much I could do about it on the road except make sure the shutter speeds I used would work. The shutter didn't always work - at one point Stone told me the shutter was still open... So I wound to the next shot...

To focus, I brought a tape measure. Took a few shots with Stone sitting at a table but, funny how my right brain can't divide by 12 to tell me how many inches are in 5 feet. So I had him sit at the counter and I did the math for 3 1/2 feet. I really wanted to have waitresses in the background, but they went home. He brought a couple fiddly cameras and took a few shots of me as well...

TMY-2 at 250, about 1 second f/3.5 developed in D-76 1:1 for 16 minutes, aiming for Contrast Index 0.75. Printed on Galerie 2 with a little dodging on Stone's face. Highlights on his right eyebrow are blocking just a bit because the film was developed to such a high contrast.

Thank you. I keep going over the negatives from this shoot and really love the 'film' colors I got. There is definitely a different warmer feel to the color than with digital and it is something I can't really describe.

Here's a better one!
This twisted wall of lava is very popular with climbers. Tours come from elsewhere with gear and ropes, and teach climbing skills. This guy from Oregon tackled it with just his bare hands.
