On the flip side, the films that could be nominated as least controversial would probably be Tri-X, HP5+, and FP4+.

Tri-X is controversial regarding its quality/price ratio. Imho HP5 is much better and much cheaper.

My opinion cause it Monday;

Tech Pan: the best film to finally convince yourself to sell all your lenses and change systems and whole formats. Widely the root cause of most male photographer's divorces since Kodak unleashed this monster to the world. The ultimate resolution power it held was The One Ring, torturing the user with an endless downward spiral of lens sharpness, film flatness, vibration elimination (not enough for "reduction" nay young squire), to the power of infinity. Just when the user unlocked the next key to an improvement it would reveal another more improbable issue, eventually ending in some hard fought conclusion that will have little to no bearing on the fun and joy of photography, such as, "the specific design of the shutter braking of my horizontal focal plane shutter makes the use of the optimum shutter speed incompatible with the optimum f-stop for the film's development, for my intended or ongoing project". Happy? Oh, you never, ever, truly will be with Tech Pan. Keep it buried said the old guy....

Going to reheat a strudel and a 2nd cup. HIE and TMZ are next.

This is a jpeg from the TIFF scan, no modifications. Not a great photo, but I can see detail in the shadows.

The problem with what the Foma film has done in this shot is that while it was clearly a bright sunny day it just doesn't look like what I think a sunny day outdoors scene should look like. There is almost an "other-worldly" feel to it i.e.it is both dark and sunny

Wanna know about the last couple of rolls I shot? The suckers turned all my beautiful seaside shots into ugly mountain landscapes.

My girlfriend? Slender brunette. Guess what pushed Foma 200 does to her? All. The. time. Busty blonde. Come on, Foma. First the scratches, now this. Just why are you doing this to us, Foma.

Oh, you can't just bury it. It has a will of its own. You have to take all your Tech Pan and send it far away to a place of doom - my mailbox will suffice - where l will expose its dark core to Heaven's light and then plunge it into deadly chemicals that will reduce and dissolve away it's essence so it will no longer be capable of capturing men's souls.

I'm not sure how film can be controversial. A bit like a controversial flavour of ice cream: some like Mango-Mint and some don't. Doesn't make much difference to anybody, really.

Amazon has Jello Butterscotch Instant Pudding and Pie Filling. Amazon probably delivers on Thanksgiving. In the alternative, google "butterscotch pudding" and you will find scores of recipes. This one contains bourbon and can be made in a blender:

A lot of silly things get written about Kodachrome. When I started taking photos in the mid 70s it was hands down the sharpest film, the Ektachromes of similar speed did not come close and all that was left was Agfa which seemed to start colour shifting towards purple as soon as you opened the box and Fuji which wasn't bad but quite grainy compared top Kodachrome. My biggest gripe with Kodachrome was how you absolutely had to nail exposure otherwise your shadows went black. It also could have problems with greens which I found out later from a Kodak rep was because the amateur emulsion was not meant to be refrigerated and left the factory with a strong green bias which turned neutral by the use by date and then drifted towards some other colour as it went past its use by date.
I changed to Fujichrome when I started printing Ciba's as Kodachrome could be a nightmare to print on Cibachromes. By this time, mid 80's Fuji film had gotten way better than it was even just 5 years before. To sum up, as long as you were aware of its need to be spot on with exposure it was the best slide film in the business until about the 1980s when Fuji challenged it.

There are times when Kodachrome should be left to moulder away. In 20 years time it will be as forgotten as the other guy (Hopefully)
