On the flip side, the films that could be nominated as least controversial would probably be Tri-X, HP5+, and FP4+.
The film delivers what it delivers and the photographer rakes through the resulting pictures and claims creative credit for the pretty ones.
Sounds pretty much like the way I operate all the time.
Heidecke and Franke were secret alchemical Masonic heretics
So true. It was so over rated.
The problem with what the Foma film has done in this shot is that while it was clearly a bright sunny day it just doesn't look like what I think a sunny day outdoors scene should look like. There is almost an "other-worldly" feel to it i.e.it is both dark and sunnyI have no way of wet printing, yet. I've only made scans. I'll post one tonight.

This is a jpeg from the TIFF scan, no modifications. Not a great photo, but I can see detail in the shadows.
Kodachrome is hands down the most controversial film. Just go look at the dreaded Kodachrome has been deleted!! thread which went of to over IIRC over 50,000 posts.
Wasn't it called "Bring back Kodachrome"? It was epic...
...Happy? Oh, you never, ever, truly will be with Tech Pan. Keep it buried said the old guy....
Controversial ice cream? Has anyone else noticed that rum and raisin ice cream has totally disappeared, just when I decided I like it? I did not know that Kodak Alaris made it, but now I'm sure.

It's time to revive it!
Bite your tongue off.
Are you the Scrooge of Photrio?
Try finding Butterscotch pudding in the grocery store or even on the internet. Who has the authority to make it disappear? Does anyone have a recipe to make it from scratch.
Wasn't Kodachrome B&W, wit the color added in processing? See how controversial is was/is!
