I've just mixed my first developer from raw chemicals and realise I've made an error. It's bath A of the Thornton 2 bath.

Rather than starting with hot distilled water and adding the chemicals in the right order, I've weighed out the metol and sodium sulfite put them in a bottle and then added the water and mixed the whole lot up. It appears to be clear, ie. nothing obviously untoward. I'd love to think it'll be alright but won't want to go wasting exposed film.

what's the verdict?

Normally metol will not dissolve in a sulfite solution, let it sit overnight, if nothing has settled out you should be good to go. Try a test run on the trimmed off leader from your first roll of film.

It has been left overnight and it's clear with no settlement or residue.
So it seems that some determined mixing may have saved the day.
Thanks Mike.
