As I am looking to put a basic scanning set up and researching 35 mm film scanning options, one scanner that interests me is the old Minolta Scan Elite II (not the 5400, but the earlier 2820 dpi version). I can't explain exactly why although I will say that all the new Plusteks are not my cup of coffee, Nikon runs a bit high on the market for what I need to do at this point. For all larger film I have the Epson 4990, so this just to get 35 film scanned in a better way.
I see very little information on this particular scanner, possibly to its relatively short production life and the self competing (at the time) Scan Dual III and IV for quite a bit less money (hence more popular).
Can anyone here weigh in on the Elite II, and better yet directly compare to Scan Dual III or IV? Scanning performance and also mechanical noise as it scans? I've used the Dual III a while back (but only for a few frames) and I remember it giving out quite a loud whining sound, very annoying. Does Elite II do the same thing?
