Mini M&Ms

I just determined that the current plastic tubes in which mini M&Ms are being sold hold two rolls of 120. I can't guarantee this will be true of all, but the one red one I tried fit two easily. A few years ago they had shorter tubes in different colors, only some of which fit. So YMMV.

I buy the shorter tubes that hold one roll of 120 with just a little extra room... They work great and you get to eat Mini M&Ms. Add a little coffee and you can't loose. =)

I bought two containers, and each holds just one, with ample "padding" above it. They are the same: MINI M&Ms. And mighty tasty, too.
But it gets better. I bought several: GREEN for new, RED for exposed; YELLOW for "something's not quite right with this roll", BLACK for "@&$&#! DUD" and BLUE for "XXXX stuff". SORTED!
All tubes are now in soapy water to remove the label before I put my own labels on to remind the lab to return 'em. Neato!

(there was a url link here which no longer exists) Ah so—! They come in long size too, yes? In that case, I'm going back down to the supermarket to buy a few more tubes. I got a strange look from the checkout chick. This time I'll show her the containers, minus-labels, with their new look!

I've probably got the mid-size e.g. that holds one roll with space to pack a few of the M&Ms at the top for the lovely girl who does the E6 processing (a creative way to a discount!).
Whatever, this is a cool idea. Perhaps we should now patent it before Apple does?

Could this fit be a coincidence? I don't think so! Someone in industrial engineering at M&M-Mars must be a medium format film nut! So how long has anyone been using these? Do the lid hinges break over time? I would think they should, since they're meant for single use (or at most, maybe a handful of opens & closes if you don't eat the M&Ms gluttonously in one sitting). Not that it matters; a film in one of these cans even with a wobbly top is still safer than a film loose in the camera bag.

I remain perplexed as to how the film world reached as its norm this daft situation where 135 films, safe in their cartridges and not needing much protection, are sold with canisters; while 120 films, which need a lot of help to avoid light contamination, typically are sold without. Kudos to Adox for having helpfully bucked this naked-120 trend, and for using stickers that come straight off (no hot water needed), making canister reuse easy.

Not for storing film before use in the freezer, but for storing exposed rolls, and those rolls 'at the ready' when out and about — saves the fumblefest with the damned wrappers and cuts down potential litter. I have four rolls thawing out in readiness for a shoot tomorrow and likewise, four empty (red) containers. The wrappers are cut at the top for instant removal. I can reseal them if the films are not used. I wouldn't be too bothered if the plastic cap hinge did break over tiime from fatique; the cap is still a press fit like a film canister. Even if it did become an annoyance, the consolation prize of M&Ms more than makes up for needing a replacement!

For anyone who's confused about the size of the tubes, here's the skinny:

M&M Minis are sold in two different sizes. A regular size, and a large (sometimes referred to as 'King Size'). The regular tubes hold one roll of 120/220 with perhaps a bit less than an inch of space at the top. The large (or King Size) tubes hold 2 rolls, with a little less space at the top.

I've been using these to store my exposed rolls of film in for a couple years. I heard about someone else doing it (either here or on another film forum). I highly recommend it.

Plus, I love candy and it's a great excuse to both eat candy, and shoot film.

I've been using them for years... to the delight of my sons who thought I was just buying them the M&M's (I had an alternative motive!!!). I have so many, and due to a serious lack of use recently, that I can't say I've seen any wear on any of them. I took a heap in to my Camera Club's traditional group and gave them to the MF users. I believe some have expanded their holdings, no idea what they did with the m&ms!

True dinks. But have you seen how much those vitamin C pep-pills are for a canister at Aldi? For a lesseer price I bought a jar of 200 Cenovis, 500mg Vit C tablets. That's all I want. No fuss, no fizz.

...And with the change bought another tube of M&Ms...

Black for B&W work...but now I need a bigger camera bag to hold the growing number of reborn M&M containers...

Sire, the coloured dots you speak of are $6.90 for a small box where I am in Australia. True, many different colours, but it is defeatist from a cost/economic viewpoint. I am using a piece of masking tape upon which I scribble what is in what tube.
