Reporting back to APUG. Twelve of us got together this morning, and the rain stayed away for most of the morning. Wyno took a group shot on his 8 x 10 Tachi, and Marc took an action "jumping" shot on his Graph Check (8 pictures in sequence). Thanks all for coming. As usual it was a very pleasant couple of hours.

I concur. A very pleasant couple of hours with good company. I wish it had been much longer, and I'm already hanging for the next one.

I agree very nice arvo. I should have one good pic for the photo comp this month @ MCC. Even though the only reason I am showing anything is to make a statement that the world isn't just DIGITAL.

Yes, great fun everyone, and very nice to see everybody and their interesting bits and bobs!! Thanks for initiating it all Kevin too!

Marc

No worries, Marc, and nice to catch up with you and Christine again, and I'm sorry I didn't get in touch with you about those LF cameras. If anybody knows of a 5 x 4 for sale, please let me know.

What a lovely group of people! Thank you so much for organising this, Kevin. It was a real pleasure to meet you all and a special thanks to Mick for donating his time so generously to me today with a first hand (and first ever) run through a darkroom and a trip to Vanbar, too! Also to Peter for making it possible for me to finally have film and paper... and, Michael, that camera really would look lovely amongst my antique furnishings here and I'm sure you're tired of carrying it around. I'd be happy to relieve you of the back strain

Had a fun day yesterday, good to catch up with some old faces. Couple of shots from the Anamorphic pinhole camera I had are below, camera work as good as expected except for the frame counter. Now to use some better film in it.

Garden and House in Botanical Garden, 12min exposure on old Ilford HP4. Develop for 1hr (stand) in Rodinal and scanned

War Memorial, 30sec on old Ilford HP4. Same development and crappy scanner

Good God, Boots! Fancy twisting the Shrine out of shape like that!
GOod meet'n'greet, though a bit short. I was under the impression we'd hang around as a large group for most of the day, but as it turned out weather wise, only good for taking shelter in the rotunda watching Tachi Mike put 'The Beast' through its paces.
Will pop my RDPIIIF roll in for processing this week.
Marc, where does one purchase a Wista 4x5 in Australia? I am interested...

Gary, I tried & tried to find one in Australia - Mainline used to be a Wista distributor, but stopped (Scott tells me) due to AUS$ vs Yen problems. The Camera Exchange were searching for one for me, but no luck there either... so in the end I ordered one from MPEX Dead Link Removed which was no problem at all, along with a couple of lensboards. Later on I decided I "needed" the flip up hood at the back, and could only find that at B&H http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/89201-REG/Wista_211110_4x5_Folding_Focusing_Hood_Groundglass.html - Postage is NOT cheap, but it's still all cheaper than my boring digi SLR kit, and hunting for lens bargains is FUN. Overall, and after using it for a year, dragging it around Europe an so on, I've been super happy with it. All I need now is to make better photos...

Hi Marc,
Very interesting.
I found this Wista on eBay, but on the USA site. I can discern good detail from photos, but other than that, "flying blind".
Link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...akeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en
Haven't contacted him yet about it re purchase outside of USA; in my experience, they're usually happy to offload it outside USA if unable to sell it.

The weight of 1.6kg is very enticing. "Brutus" is 2.3kg, but certainly not a "boring (non digi!) SLR kit"!

One problem I have is that it is unproven whether I can actually see/focus on the ground glass being a glasses wearer; I have a loupé of course, but observed that I could not clearly discern the image on the ground glass when I looked at it on Saturday. Need to be certain of this before committing to purchase.

They certainly are surprisingly light! That ebay one is quite a different beast to mine & Shane's - the metal hardware is quite different, especially the front standard, so it might be a bit older or a different model entirely. But their build quality from what I've seen overall seems quite good - and that example does come with some holders and a lens and so on, which makes it quite attractive! Keep your eyes peeled though - I have seen newer models cheaper here and on ebay.

I have a 4x5 that I am looking to trade for a 6x7 camera, however I will sell to you if you're interested and I find another APUG member willing to sell to me. Complicated I know. If nothing pops up for a trade then I will sell to you.

It is a Wista Field, like the one in the auction above. See my trade thread for details and email me for photos and discussion.

Thanks.

I was very impressed by the Zero Image pinhole. I'm very tempted to get one.
Hope to develop my roll of Fomapan 100 tonight.

I'll have to try harder to make the next one myself.

A little off-topic here, but does anyone happen to know when that big market is on at Camberwell town hall??

Hi guys,
I've just done a test print of the group. Out of all the group the only one who looks like a dork is me. I'll do a proper print and post it on my flickr account.
