A good day out, and I missed the long trail. Might go back again this weekend, if not Easter.
Took three 8x10 shots but had problems with condensation forming on the back of the camera, making it difficult to focus - especially when using tilts.

I'm the one in shorts - mosquito bait!

I was really impressed with the falls - best temperate rainforest I've seen in Victoria really - even saw a Lyrebird (which Scott & Christine can verify)!!

Yes, it is much less disturbed rainforest environment than, for instance, many places in the Otways that were hitherto unknown to many people and now over-run by them, or with walking tracks penetrating deeper and deeper. Toorongo is also much greener and healthier, probably its location but generally lack of disturbance. The bracket fungi was in proliferation and several varieties and is always a crowd puller.

Those B&W shots of Toorongo Falls are impressive, as are the IR images. I shot only Velvia and will scan and prep some on Sunday after collecting them.

Bluedog, the first of the two IR shots looks great.

Still had no time yet to drive to Vanbar to have my 4 rolls of Velvia developed. I hate it that they moved to Fitzroy... Might also ask them what they charge for scanning as I don't have a scanner.

Marc, Zhen and I saw two Lyrebirds as well. One between Amphitheatre falls and car park and one on the way to the Ada tree (which at the end we did not visit because it started to get dark; it's a 25km drive one way from the street on dirt roads).

It seems to take many people longer to get to Vanbar now. I am appalled at the effort required to get now, for now commonly "we don't have that at the moment" or for a greatly inflated price! Even on a mountain bike, from North Melbourne (typically I stop there to drop-in/collect processing etc.) it is a very adventurous ride down one-way streets like leafy green Moore Street (bikes are allowed down one way streets). And the further I am riding the more agitated by the whole experience I am: the traffic everywhere in Melbourne is appalling, Grattan Street and Smith Street being the standouts.

This pains me GREATLY to say, but perhaps Michael's is an option? Now that I don't live near Prism, this is my quickest E6 option. And they're not quite as Ned Kelly with their E6 prices as everything else in that overpriced cesspit

As for Prism, they did E6 on Tuesdays and Thursday, and did a pretty good job of it. YMMV.

Dunno about "overpriced": they did surprisingly better pricing Velvia than Vanbar. And better eye-candy behind the counter to boot.
My understanding of the status of film processing, asking at Michaels, is that E6 take-up is rising. I would not know if it is local or across Melbourne, but is an interesting point.

Efke IR820 with IR720 filter.
There are some small specs visible in the emulsion on some frames. Reading other posts on the subject points to this being fairly common and resulting from poor QA at Efke.
Just finished the Velvia roll today so will drop it in to Vanbars tomorrow.

Very interesting ideed. I have a roll of Efke Aura 820 and an IR720 filter waiting in the wings. SMBooth has obtained excellent results with SFX200 and an IR720.

Good group shot!
Have my 8x10 contact prints all done. I am happy with them.
The overcast conditions and no wind were magic for my gear(Kodak 2D). Well done everyone!

Whilst I was roaming around with the LF cameras, trying to shoot something 'epic' - Christine was quietly peering about at the small things, armed with her Mamiya 645 Pro, and an 80mm macro lens... I've scanned a couple of her pics:

Kind of creepy, kind of awesome... The grainier one was with Tri-X, and the other Plus-X. I am also impressed because there's no way could I handhold the Mamiya at f/4 and get pictures that sharp (this is also one of the reasons I'm not a surgeon)...

Ooh, I particularly like that second one of Christine's. The um...whatever it is, seems to be radiating light from within. Nicely seen and well captured.

Reading this thread, I'm truly sorry I didn't make the drive up, but, clearly, myself and my little Canon EOS would have been embarrassingly outclassed.
All the same, thank you Marc, for thinking of me when you started organising this. It sounds as though you all had a great day and I love seeing all of your wonderful images.
I shall try to be braver next time.

OK, a little bit of a misunderstanding with the clocks and watches this morning, but all fixed now!
Here are some of my scenes from the Toorongo River outing. You'll note in the oblique view of the Toorongo River that the "hidden 10%" viewfinder deficiency of the Pentax 67 has caused the bridge handrail to appear in the lower right! Drrrrrr! A later shot on the return journey, on Velvia 50 straight ahead, fixed this, but I much prefer the rendition on 100F.

These photos from Pentax 67 with either 55mm f4 or 165mm f4 (polarised), sometimes hand-metered.

The two Velvia's could not be more dissimilar in palette!

Toorongo Falls, hi-bias (+0.6) metered for luminance.
The effect of tilting the camera up is obvious from the convergent trees.

Under the treefern, by the rapid river

'Brutus' hasn't finished with the roll yet; that's likely to come out after Easter travels.
