There's this metal bridge-thingy that goes across the chasm from the viewing platform to the other side of the river. I'm not sure whether it's a stabiliser or a power/water/phone conduit.

This is the best image that I could find to give you a bit of an idea of the structure's design:

48229-melbourne-apug-get-together-galv.jpg.att

It's made from galvanised steel tubing and is as slick as shit when wet!

This must be a recent inclusion in the area? I've been down there several times, the last being March 2011 and have never seen such a Wallace and Gromit thingy. It looks like a bike rack on first glance. Cross on it? Maybe one can side-step holding onto the the top rail? Dunno about juggling tripod, boxes, portmanteaux and bags AND having to hold a grip... :pouty: Boots is right: somebody ought to pack a video to capture the spills and thrills. PS: Not me.

Hi guys,
Unfortunately my 'tentatively' has become a 'dangit', missus has an interview to do that morning, so I'm on Dad duties, sorry I can't make it

Expect it to be cool and a bit damp on this occasion. Better than it being dry and lifeless with bright sun. Remember if it rains, you get wet. If you fall into the Toorongo, you will get very wet indeed. Dress as a bushwalker normally would.

Yes, the weather is shaping up to be perfect for an excursion into the woods, a little damp, a little light and next to no breeze.

Marc, organise a pic on the day to send to Sean here on APUG: we might get good publicity (and a free roll of film!?) for being the biggest Australian APUG song and dance.

Picture perfect conditions, like John Meier's little gem,
reproduced here from THE RAINFOREST: Spirit of the Land (1993).

Toorongo River_John Meir.jpg

Imagine how beautiful this scene would be if it snowed lightly, as it often does during winter in Noojee.

Joachim, John M. is known to have used a Pentax 67 for mid-1980s to early 1990 images; this is probably one of them (I have a 55mm and 165mm lens and will chance my luck).

I keep my eyes open for this book. Looks very interesting. I guess we will have quite a P67 gathering at the falls this weekend. We should arrange a group picture. The camera always has been very popular with landscape photographers. Robert Glenn Ketchum is another great example.

I picked up the book from Beach Books at Barwon Heads in 1998. The photographs are accompanied by some timeless poems and verse by Australian bush poets and balladeers, and most of the time the writing compliments the photographs. Other photographers of note in the book are Philip Quirk, Grenville Turner, Peter Jarver and Richard Glover. The ISBN is 0 207 18922 6. I think it is out of print.

Thanks for the ISBN. I just ordered the book 2nd hand from NSW. So far I always liked the books you mentioned here (in particular 'Simply' by Peter Dombrovskis).

J., PD's book, Simply, is opened here on the bookcase behind me to the autumnal scene of pp37-38, Dawn at Cradle Mountain... and Mount Gould in autumn from the Labyrinth.
If you like dramatic scenery over The Ditch in NZ, Craig Potton's New Zealand North and South will take you wide-eyed and aghast to places of wild and unblemished grandeur, e.g. Korokoro Falls nr. Lake Waikaremoana in Te Urewera National Park escape me for adequate description of the beauty. ISBN 1 877333 58 1 / 978 1 877333 58 3.

BTW, do you have any idea where to get mounts of some sorts for individual 6x7 slides? I recall you presenting with a folder some time in the past in which your 6x7 images were in what looked like Gepe glass or plastic mounts??

Thanks, I will check this out another time!

I use Hama Pro-Slide AV 6x7 glasless slide frames (8.5cm x 8.5cm) for my projection and presentation. Unfortuntately, they are out of production now. But they show up from time to time on ebay Germany.

The very, very loverly Vanessa O'Hanlon (Ch 24 weather) has just said that snow is expected in Tassie, and possibly here in Victoria.

Seems that I'll be smelling of moth balls this weekend!

And the BOM has given a most satisfying outlook for the APUG knees-up:

Sunday 25 March
Partly cloudy. Isolated showers in the early afternoon. Light winds. Overnight temperatures falling to between 7 and 11 with daytime temperatures reaching between 17 and 21.

Be aware that when shooting from the footbridge everybody will no doubt need to ask others to remain still / not walk at the profound risk of introducing vibration on slow-speed shots. Several of my own images over the years have been dudded by people walking over the bridge with the shutter open! It could be a very, very busy place indeed on Sunday, with the usual day-trippers from Sin City mingling with APUGers! Ya never know, we might even garner some film converts once they see all our analogous thoroughbreds in all their snazzy incarnations...

I think that there's a good opening on the creek just off the far side of the bridge.

By the way, it's snowing on Mt Baw Baw - the creek will be full of Spanner Water if you fall in.

Ack! There isn't enough snow up there for a babe to bum ski.
Still, a light dusting on the ferns of the Toorongo River verges would be magic.

Sorry guys.....I had a feeling this would happen. I won't be able to make it - family commitments...

Have a great day!

Same thing has happened to me :-( I've been holding off until the very last moment hoping for a change in the wind, but there's no chance now. Sometimes I do envy single guys.

I'm going up on Saturday and camping, anyone else doing similar?

Mick.

I would love to, but it is not going to happen as wife has car, and looking after a 5 & 3 year old in the company of so much expensive gear scares the bejesus out of me.

Potentially back to 20, with less than a day to go!!! Best make sure your film holders actually have film in them, etc...

Back home after emergency run to Melbourne for a polariser: I seem to have lost my B+W Kasemann (!). Now I find I can only stuff so much in a large KATA bag. Maybe I need a LARGER large-size KATA bag... :pouty:

************ Marc, post
#172 from mrsmiggins/Frank potentially means the 21st member. Come on! All aboard the gravy train...

I'm coming with Brutus and Pentaximus, plus tripod (yes, I remember!): weight of this kit and caboodle is about 13kg... Gotta find a bogey one day to sledge-haul this stuff :pouty:

See youse all on the 'morrow.

LATE ENTRY One more, Marc!! 22 and counting...:
Just confirmed that I am bringing a friend from Deakin Uni; he is a keen photographer.
