Measurements needed for 2d 8x10 lens board

My new to me 8x10 camera has no lens board. I can make the easy but want to make sure I cut the material right. If anyone out there has one of these cameras, can you measure the outside dimentions of the board and the thickness.

Errr... You have the camera, just measure the opening. 1/4" thick Baltic Birch plywood makes for great lensboards. Cut a 1/4" wide 1/8" deep rabbet all the way around and you should be fine. Paint the inside flat black (Krylon makes an Ultra Flat spray paint that's the cat's ass for this). If you go too deep on the rabbet, use some black photo masking tape or gaffer tape to build it back up. If you have a drill press, get an adjustable circle cutter and/or some Forstner bits and/or hole saws for drilling the lens mounting holes.

The plywood has never worked for me. Warps instantly for some reason, no matter how I store it. I use masonite.

I use a 1/8 hobby plywood, and then cut the board, then move in 1/4 and cut another board of of the same stuff, and glue them together, never had any problem with warping, paint the back flat black, stain the front, cost about $1.00 total, good stuff

Warps? Wow, I never had that problem. Were you using the 7 ply stuff or the 3 ply?

Thanks for that info. I've just bought a 2-D, but have not yet got my sweaty mitts on it! I have a 300mm Nikkor W which I use on my Linhof – and which I would like to continue to be able to use on it – so I guess I will need to cobble up something that acts as a coverter between 6" square and Technika size (the normal Linhof boards are 161mm). Shouldn't be too difficult......[gulp]

Not sure but it was not at all flimsy so I assume the sheets were hefty.

I think it is the atmosphere. It is really dry here. I mean REALLY dry. SO, if it does get humid, as it does a couple times a year, the wood sucks it up.

The Masonite is ugly but works perfect.

Thats why I use the 7 ply 1/8 hobby plywood, and then laminate them crossed grain, never have a problem with warpage...

Thanks Dave. Is it tapered at all? The outside measurments are a hair over 6 inches and the inside are exactly 6 inches on my front standard. This might be due to the taking off and putting on of lens boards over the years.

If I like using the camera, I will order some GG from you.

I don't taper mine, but would not be that hard to do, I like my 2D, it folds up nice as far as 8x10's go and works pretty good out in the field, if I were doing a lot of studio work, i would get a mono-rail but for landscapes and such, it works great..

If I can help, just drop me a note, I am currently looking for a 4x5 reducing back if you happen to know of anyone.
