The Art of - ''On the beach with a telephoto'' ?? ...hmm ?![]()
Really? That's some tabloid/clickbait thinking right there.
Are you going to call him a 'peado' for taking the Last Resort series?

Martin said somewhere that The Last Resort would be impossible to shoot now because someone would take exception to elements of the subject matter. How popular consciousness has changed in 30 years! The naked male infant was sufficiently inspired by the photograph to a take a photography degree as an adult. The point about the telephoto wasn't to snoop - Parr has no problem shooting in people's faces - it's to challenge the wide angle aesthetic of street photography as a whole. He's always been experimental in his approach, and his advocacy of Stephen Gill who shoots exclusively on film and whose work is all about the film medium, shows he isn't anti-analogue.Really? That's some tabloid/clickbait thinking right there.

He also shot a lot of frames on medium format cameras, which is why those knocking his attitude to film are wide of the mark. He said he couldn't afford to get all his negatives contact printed for Last Resort and had to judge the shots from the neg itself.I may prefer the look of his film-shot stuff but I've watched him work - he shoots a lot of frames! I can't see how anyone can object to his methods, is he not brilliant at what he does?
''I subvert the commercial aspirations of photography'' - as he waits to pick up his award at the Sony Corporation's lush dinner do.

Also, I've seen a few of this Asian guy's photography themed video uploads on youtube, and they are awful; all presentation and shallow un-inspiring drivel interspersed with needless interjection and sillyness.
Then again...maybe I just got out of the wrong side of bed this morning.

Kai's business is selling cameras. Parr's job is photography. I'm sure Kai is as unconcerned with the technical increments of digital cameras as Parr is, but those tweaks are his bread and butter, unlike Martin Parr.Martin Parr?
Never heard of her.
Kai on the other hand, has put the 'fun' in photography for many years with digialRev (and analogRev), he recently quit digitalRev and is now living in the UKL and runs his own channel.
I think Kai has done for photography 'for the masses' than Parr and I think you needs to have been pretty long in this game to even know who he is.

I know of Parr but never heard of Kai before. I think for a great part that is as matter of age and lifestyle.
Martin Parr's photography is shot on a camera that "talks" to his flash. Why would he hamstring himself with a bunch of mathematical calculations before he presses the shutter? He obviously understands the subject of fill in flash because he did the same with a manual medium format film camera, and before that a Leica. The production of art has nothing to do with what exposure mode the camera is set on.- I find it strange that seasoned, professional photographers like Parr can shoot in P-mode.
What do they do when the camera decides to shoot a portrait at f16 and ISO 12800 at 1/50's?
Call it 'art' ?
It's lazy and typical for people who didn't adjust that damn blinking clock on their VCR's back in the day.![]()
Perhaps your Google isn't working? https://pro.magnumphotos.com/C.aspx...ult&ALID=2K1HRGWPTOZ2&VBID=2K1HZSJOP89RK&PN=1I just find it strange, then again, his photographs are not my taste (googled and checked, meh'ed and moved on).
Wow you really do only have to name a famous and financially successful living photographer on Apug for the sour grapes to be dumped in the hopper and every scrap of juice squeezed out.

Photography is a democratic medium. If "new blood" has something original to offer it will gain an audience. Until then the "average snaps" of Martin Parr will remain one of the cornerstones of contemporary photography.Yes, I know I'm stepping on some toes with that, but there you go. Old farts who had a life-long career and is approaching their 70's should go off to retirement and let new blood push photography further instead of standing at the bridge until they keel over.

I do say so. If you're arguing photography is undemocratic you're wrong, photography has never been cheaper or the means to disseminate your images more available. If you're saying Martin Parr is hogging the limelight you're also wrong, he does more to educate and enthuse young photographers than most people, and spreads the word on interesting work, as well as co-editing the exhaustive three volume bible (soon to be four) on the photobook. So however you look at it you're wrong, and if you had to Google Parr's work you're ignorant and wrong. You are fully entitled to dislike his work, your reasons for doing so are misplaced and prejudicial. If you say so![]()
Perhaps this will clear up what he's about?I follow several podcasts and vlogs who do talk about various names in photography, Parr has never been mentioned even once.
I suppose it's like everything else in the arts, after he is dead, he will be bigger than Elvis.![]()
