When I first noticed Panatomic X, I thought what a great name. If you were marketing a new film, what criteria would it have? And what would you call it?

I'd use a very simple and generic name: F.I.L.M. and F.I.L.M.

The name that always intrigued me was "Fantome 8" -a real name if anyone recalls it. It sounded the kind of film a "hardboiled " private detective a la Raymond Chandler would use, say Sam Spade - now there's a name to conjure with for a private detective if ever I heard one

Does anyone know where the name Panatomic-X came from? I would think the "pan" is for panchromatic, but what about the "atomic" part of the name?

DownThe Pan 100

In this day and age if I were marketing a new B&W film I'd probably try and include "analogue" in the name but one must be very careful how one truncates that...."AnalPan 400" really doesn't quite hit the spot.

TradPan if it was a traditional type formulation

I always liked Fuji's name "NeoPan" indicating it's something new while keeping the familiar "pan"

what about the "atomic" part of the name?

Things "atomic" were trendy at the time - just like X was trendy.

People are more likely to appreciate grain these days, so maybe a roll of Sandpan 100 or Gravelpan 400 would fly....
