Ok.. so I saw a kool documentary about Polaroid:

http://timezeromovie.com/

So, I *must* now get a Polaroid Back for my Mamiya RZ 67 Pro II (see my thought process)

Some seem to look different than others, which is the best?

And one the E-Bay or KEH gods smile down on me, which film do I get?

Only one film still in production: Fuji FP-100c. ISO 100 colour film. About $9 a pack from B&H. FP-3000b ISO 3000 b&w was discontinued just a year or two ago, so fairly fresh stuff can still be found.

For about the same price as a back, you might consider just buying an old Polaroid pack film camera. Somewhat larger rectangular print than the 7x7 cm square you will get with your mamiya, and easier to cart around. The prints are not that sharp anyway (the bleached negative can be) so the superior mamiya lenses won't really shine.

Does anyone know of a good source for the RZ67 Polaroid backs that doesn't break the bank? I kick around from time to time with a beater RZ67 Pro and would love to get a back, but the prices on the 'bay plus shipping from Japan approach 1/3 of what I paid for the camera! (If anyone has a beater back that works, I'd be interested...)

PS you can still get the 4x5 version (FP100C45) from Japan, you just have to order it directly, I still believe they produce the film but again only for the Japanese market.

But for the OP he/she needs the 3.25x4.25 version.

Also really handy for testing an E-6 Velvia100/Provia100f shot (which was the original purpose for this film).

I might have one to sell, $70 CONUS if I can find it.

These backs can usually be found on ebay for $50 or less. Very useful, they shoot a square image, and quality is definitely better than any polaroid camera, you will notice the difference.

One thing I've observed: the actual Mamiya branded back has an ISO setting dial and will play nice with a meter prism. The NPC back doesn't have this. However, some copies of the NPC back have rounded corners, whereas the Mamiya back has them sort-of clipped. I have an NPC back with rounded corners, and an NPC back with clipped corners. Both do what they're supposed to...make 7x7 squares. As mentioned, a folding land camera is perhaps a better shooter...you can get a 250 for about $50 used on eBay if you watch, and a 100 (same lens/body as a 250, just lacks the single window zeiss ikon finder and has a two window finder, which I prefer) for about $10.

I actually have a 250 - it's a great camera, and I think was one of a few models that actually had a glass (as opposed to plastic) lens. Zeiss viewfinder too. But it's maddening not having aperture/shutter control.

For me, I'd want the back to do a few test shots for the camera. Considering a roll of 120 plus development isn't exactly pennies anymore, it would be nice to at least have a quick check on whether what I'm planning to shoot is actually going to shoot the way I want it to shoot!

Well, you could always do what I did, if you don't want to sink $500 into a 180...

If you're patient (willing to wait a few weeks), you'll find a back on eBay in the US for 40 or 50 bucks. That's how I bought my last two. It works pretty good for what it is, like the image posted by another above shows. Even though it's a square crop, I still think it works out nicer than the IP stuff and a 600.

Not sure if I've post this before. Polaroid Pack Leak in Polaroid Back:

A Polaroid Pack leaked in my Polaroid Back for Mamiya RZ67 Pro.

Is there anything I can do to redeem that back? (the corrosion burned the asa dial off, but it was set for that pack... that being 400asa.)

Thanks for advice! cheers....

I watched Nico's Photography Show "Misloading Polaroid film"
on YT
He shows you can open the Polaroid Back without damaging all the film.

I did that. With a hand held meter reading, I got f8 @ 1/15 sec for asa 100. I just barely got an image. The asa dial must have been set very high to give me that underexposed image.
