Does anyone here have any experience with the optical quality of the Mamiya 645 AF D lenses versus the Mamiya 645 AF non-D lenses on film? In particular the AF 45mm f2.8 vs the AF 45mm f2.8 D. On various other forums I find statements varying from "non-D not usable, get the D" to "tried them both, can't see much difference" for the 45mm. These statements usually come from users with (high end) digital backs. As far as I know digital sensors are more prone to colour fringing and vignetting due to the mechanics of the sensor. They're more reflective than film. On the other hand the sensor's flatness is superior to 120 film flatness. So film vs sensor has pros and a cons with respect to getting the most out of a lens. But as I'm not interested in a digital back, is there any gain in image quality from the D lenses when using film?
For what it's worth, I print my negatives with a Componon-S 80mm f4 and a glass negative holder.
