Making larger format negs?

Until this day I have only used (smaller) large format negs and contact printed them. Now I want to go bigger but any suggestions on film? (I do not want to use a printer of course)

Sure, enlarge to ortho film. Just google "enlarged negatives." N.b, if you try to search for that using the APUG search engine, you won't get much; use google instead.

For color, I think you would want something low contrast maybe like a Portra 160NC.....

Oh sorry, just noticed that this was a question for colour. This opens up the possibility of doing an E6 enlargement, so there'd be no need for an interpositive- the slide would itself provide a suitable negative image for ra4 printing. I haven't done it but I think I'd try that. Something like astia might do the trick. Might be too contrasty.

are you trying to make enlarged negatives( negative-->negative)?

there used to be a film that could do that, I don't believe its made anymore.

now, you'll have to make either
1. an interpositive, to make another enlarged negative
or
2. a nice scan(preferably a drum scan), and then have that digit@lly recorded back onto film. Most labs offering this service use Portra 160NC, due to the lower contrast.

Enlarging negs has two problems...the first problem is increase in contrast and the second problem is loss of sharpness. When you print a copy neg, the print is a second generation copy. John Powers has the best and direct way to make a larger neg.
