$120/10 rolls shipped to the US. But that took into account the shipping cost from the seller to Howard, then from Howard to me. I think Howard said it was just under $9/roll. The shipping to me was expedited, not the cheapest way.

I wrote to FreestylePhoto and they said they would look into stocking it. So hopefully that will happen.

I have one RB67 film back that takes 220, and one other camera I can fake it; I'd buy a few rolls a year, probably. I could get more 220 capability if there were film to use with it.

I’m Howard. I bought the film from Taobao, had the seller ship it to me in Taipei and then forwarded it to Huss.

What is Taobao? Does the manufacturer, Shanghai Film company, make the 220 film or a third party?

Taobao is an Amazon-like e-commerce platform.

Based on an interview I watched, the Shanghai GP3 is no longer manufactured by the Shanghai Film Company. Another company, Jian Cheng has licensed the brand and formula and asked ORWO to coat (make) the recent run. Jian Cheng started with GP3 100, including the 120 format with the backing paper problem, then released the GP3 400 version followed by the 220 format. They also have the film in various sheet film formats.

Jian Cheng specifically says it’s not a rebranding of an existing film (ORWO UN54 or ORWO N74), but I haven’t been able to verify this, and others on APUG, who may know more than me, think otherwise.

I suppose Jian Cheng is similar to Fotoimpex and Adox, analog enthusiasts working to keep an emulsion available and promoting analog photography and darkroom wet printing.

Yes and maybe all the 220 inserts for P645s. Yes there is a simple way of converting 220 to 120 to make it usable but a debate raged on Pentax Forums on whether this conversion put an unnecessary strain on the camera's motor and this shortened the camera's life.

There didn't appear to be a conclusion one way or another. Anyway for those nervous about the effects of the conversion a new 220 film might give them a solution. I am conscious of the possibility this will start off a debate on P645 inserts and I hope this doesn't. I'd like to end it there by saying that it might at least help the sales of all those 220 P645 inserts

Good that howardpan can get the stuff and act as supplier. The confusion of course as to who makes the stuff and is it old stock cobbled together by little old ladies in the dark in China or the dark somewhere in the former E Germany ( ORWO's origins?) remains

I feel we need Henning on this investigation. I have in my head that scene in Airplane where a desperate Lloyd Bridges says "Get me Rex Kramer!"

That's a fascinating story. If Ilford can make new Fuji Acros II, maybe Mr. Cheng could spool limited runs of 220 for Ilford, Kodak etc. Maybe make a batch every year at Christmas . Thanks for the info .

The backing paper:

Weird thing - it stinks like mothballs. Never noticed the smell of backing paper before on any other 120 or 220 films that I have used.

sort of hand made out of 120 paper. none of the extra marks for "special equipment" that is known for 220 paper.
