Nope... same old, same old. Just as many curmudgeons there as there are here. So why stay away? A computer and a bottle of bourbon go well together.

Bombay Sapphire for me.

I have a bottle of that stuff too. I like a few different gins, Boodles is good, too. Right now I'm working on a glass of wine.

It was yesterday as well for a while. it has bounced back two or 3 times today but then gone again, you couldn't actually access threads. I feel sorry for the poor guy who's quite obviously tearing his hair out trying to sort it out.

I'm trying to access a PM from one of the Moderators, the body of the LFF PM's isn't included in the Notification emails, unlike the ones from APUG. Luckily I know from the title it's part of an ongoing conversation and we could switch to emails.

We are lucky here that Sean is able to keep APUG up to date and stable, because of Subscribers & Advertisers as well as the sites Partners (Sponsors) he can sub-contract to others with the necessary skills.

IIRC the issue with funding had to do with the amount required to make a significant difference. The moderators said that to raise the amount needed to move to a completely different server with higher maintenance, they would have to go beyond member contributions and to accept advertising, similar to APUG. The step to accepting advertising was what they objected to. Perhaps if the instability continues to get worse, the issue may need to be revisited.

You're absolutely right, Peter; more complex than I previously noted.

Since the LF forum is down, I, in a fit of rebellion, developed 4 rolls of 120 film!

Based on forum size and activity a fully managed VPS with SSD and guaranteed cores/memory would suit them well. I host a dedicated server at Wiredtree and find them the best in the business and I hear good things about their VPS services. Their staff and linux techs are tops, best I've ever worked with. LFF would be looking at around $80-$130 a month to get set up with them. They could start with $80 and if all runs smooth leave it at that, if they need more grunt they can add it on the fly (for example add another cpu core for an extra $20 a month, etc).

Okay, okay...when I get back from a (non-photographic) road trip next week, I promise to start developing my back-log of 11x14 negatives!
