I don't think the mild-mannered and logical Confucius said that but he might have said... "DAMMIT!!"

LFPF appears to be back up...

Quickly, make a donation before it is down again !!!! (Seriously: do so and help them running it properly)

They don't take money... They believe it makes them pure and not susceptible to favoritism, however it does mean the site goes down more often then it might if you are run by someone being paid...

No forum is completely immune from favoritism or other flaws. Moderators are human beings.

But it doesn't make the owner beholden to anyone if they should choose to change directions of the forum or keep the form as they want it, they don't have the influence of financial people who might be unhappy with changes in my try to influence, only peer pressure

That's true, Stone, and all too often forums are all about the money... Paid Vendors. Thank goodness LFPI and APUG aren't like that. I'm just saying Moderators are human beings... and money isn't everything... but it does make life easier (and helps run a forum more smoothly). The money must come from "somewhere". Back to Mods: Sometimes it just gets personal and for no seemingly good reason.

They could easily limit the donations to a small amount like $20 or something. $20 doesn't buy a lot of influence, and it's small enough that many people would donate. Provide a perk like access to a paid members only sub-forum for get togethers or whatever

It's been rehashed the last time the site was out for like a week and they refuse, just the way they want it, no arguing, it's their place they make the rules.

In my opinion, everyone perturbed by occasional outages at the largeformatphotography.info forum, both those posting here and in a similar thread there, really should make donations. To a cheese fund. So they'll have something to go with their whine.

Give it up folks. The absolute best part of that site is its non-commercial nature. On those occasions when you can't access it, get a life. Shoot some film.

No one is whining. We're just trying to offer ways to make things better and we're willing to put our money where our mouths are.

As good a suggestion as any! Or develop/print some film.(I have some serious backlog piling up there)

Agree with the non-commercial remark - can be quite irksome on some other sites.
