wow, with what everyone is bringing, I think I'll leave my equipment in the car! But, I think we should set up a swap/sale table in case anyone wants to ....swap or sell stuff. You can find Whitey and me there....

I'm even bringing the table!

But seriously now folks... Maybe some of us should just leave our gear in the car until we see what is needed. I know I was bringing multiple cameras, tripods, lights and a backdrop with the idea of sharing. All this stuff will, most likely, not be needed. Even with the large space available to us, ten separate set-ups will be a bit craaaaaazzzzy. I'll still bring gear, but it's going to stay in the Suzuki until called for. Except for the trading table, that is... "Come and get it folks! Just leave me some ridiculous piece of photo junk you have no use for and take away that beautiful....whatchamawhozit." Old film? old wood? adapters? old glass? STUFF! Wonderful, irreplaceable, just what I needed STUFF! A man can't have enough stuff!

Gene, did you rent the rest of the mall for us?
Suzanne, got your best organizing hat on?
Are we documenting this? I'll have a Pressman with flashbulbs...

I'm bringing something JUST for you, an unopened box of 4x5 Tri-X that "expired" in July 1975... Remember back then? When a 25 sheet box of film cost less than $5.00?

hehehe

Trade for a 100' roll of Panatomic X from 1963?

How about a partial box of 4X5 Super Panchro Press, Type B dated April 1952?

You know this proves were pack rats...

Seriously though, I'll have a Nikon FM with MD-11 motor that I'll let go at a real good price, a 28mm f/3.5 Nikkor (factory Ai ring), a non-Ai 50mm f/2, and some other Nikon crapola for the table. Oh yes... a 229mm f/5.6 Ilex Copy Paragon w/flange...

OK, I'm hitting the road - I'd like to make it to my hotel with some time to crash a bit before meeting Gene for unloading and dinner.

See ya'll tomorrow...

I have 20 copies of a 13-page handout on basic view camera handling, 20 copies of a 5-page handout on large format portraits. Handouts represent the opinions of the author, some of which you may not agree with...

anyone bringing their video camera or digital P&S to take instructional videos/ snap shots for web ?

// manjo ducks

If you get a chance to read this... do not leave your equipment in your vehicle!! Bring it into the VPC, we have plenty of room to store it. I will remind ya tomorrow to bring your gear in with you.
I will bring my wife's digi-gizmo for both the APUG & VPC websites.
A couple of things to remember for tomorrow: Have fun and meet & Make new friends.

Traffic wasn't bad (except the BQE)... made it in 4 hours.

The Valley Photo Center
1500 Main Street
Springfield, MA 01115

Here is the address for those searching for it last minute.

Woohoo!

A big thank you to Gene for hosting, Suzanne for organizing, and to everyone who made it to VPC - today was a BLAST!!!! It was great to finally be able to put actual faces to names. It was a pleasure meeting you all.

Yeah, thanks to Gene and Suzanne, et al. Thanks to JustK for her portrait of me, which I am morally obligated now to scan and post. Thanks to Bruce Barlow for his LF teaching. Thanks to the patient sitters and the enthusiastic learners.

Finally, I'd like to thank Whitey for the extended tour of Springfield and the excitement of nearly running out of gas on the return trip... When we parted, he congratulated me on not saying anything during the ordeal, although apparently the grinding of my teeth and other whimpering noises were beginning to bother him...

Thanks, all

OK, what wrong turn did you two make?! You can spit and hit Rte 91 from the VPC!
I want to thank every one who made today a great pleasure. As Bob said - it was a blast (for those of you who haven't met Mr Fowler yet... he's a blast! :D )
Thank you Bob; thank you Ted; thank you Bruce and thank you very much Suzanne. There is definately a great group of photographers here in New England.
And Bill that NE-APUG initiation rite is good for only one year.

I was at the last meeting and was planning to attend but was sick all week. I missed everything!! I am very, disappointed..Bruce, is there any chance of getting a copy of your handouts? I can pay for postage.

It sounds like everyone had a great time. I car pooled with Whitey and Bill at the last meeting, it sounds like it was an adventure on the return trip...

Oh contraire, I think these tattoos are permanent...

John... Bruce left some extra copies, and I have them to send to anyone who didn't make it. PM me with your address, and I'll get it in the mail this week.

Thanks to everyone for coming, and a big thanks to Gene for letting us use the VPC. I had a blast today, and I can actually USE my speed graphic a la Weegee.

Thanks to those for the demos... Bob Fowler on lights, Ted Harris on soft focus lenses, and Bruce Barlow for the LF camera intro, and portraits. (God.. I hope I got everyone's name right!)

Great day, and THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to everybody for coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bill - they are more than permanent. In the next few months they will slowly migrate from your biceps to your forehead, where they will recreate the epic Battle of Waterloo in full technicolor glory!!

gene

Oops...

I was supposed to get them on my biceps? (Gene and I should probably stop this exchange about the mythical ne apug initiation rite, otherwise in a month we'll have a 200 page detailed manual...that nobody will care about except us. But Gene, my offer still stands to back you up on any facetious remark you post to APUG, and besides supplying corrobating details, I'll add more more detailed, intricate and fictitious supporting anecdotes.)

As long as Marshall Ney and Marshall Grouchy are treated with respect.
DAMMIT! Why am I doing this when I can barely type?

Bill, You said you wanted to take that tour of the more ... picturesque parts of Springfield! And as for the gas, I told you, I had two or three quarts left when we turned off in Woostah - no proooblem.

Hey, thanks to all. A good time was had and a lot was learned. I hope the pizza was good. I told Bill that the spot we got gas in Woostah was just feet from the best hotdogs in the universe, but he was a bit quivery at that point and just wanted this "ride with Whitey" thing over.

For my part, I plan on trying that "set up, tear down ten times" routine someday... maybe not, but I'll think about doing it, I promise.

Gene, Suzanne, Bob, Ted, Bruce, Drew, Hanni ...(ah heck, I'm forgetting names already!) EVERYONE! the teaching was great, the company superb and the location top notch. Thanks again.

I really hope to make the next session. Or that some of the folks nearer to Boston schedule something similar.

I want to add my two cents worth if I may...

It was definitely worth the four ride and two night's stay at a motel for me to have attended. Meeting fellow LFers, of course, was one of the best thinks. I had the opportunity to learn a few things and was able to pass along some of my knowledge too. It was a win-win situation the entire day.

Finally, the friendship and fellowship at the Red Rose was a good way to end the day. After some photography in Springfield today, I will be heading home. Thanks again to everyone for making it a great day.

I'd like to say that I was very happy even just to spend a couple hour meeting people and learning some new things about LF photography. I wished I could have stayed until the end to actually practice some techniques.

Bill, you'll be happy to know this Grasshopper will setup his new Canham 100 times. Ay, Master.

Here's a link some snaps I took with my digicam:
http://www.gr82bart.com/APUG/VPC/

Very special thanks to Gene for hosting the event and spending some time looking at my portfolio. Thanks to Bob, Bruce and Ted for spending the time and effort to teach. Especially to Ted and Bruce that had handouts as well. And of course a thanks to our next APUG Conference 2007 organizer - Suzanne!

Enjoy, Art.
