Maybe we could even stick a couple of bucks in the package prior to passing it on to help with the next photographer's postage?

I think that paying the way to the next stop will just about even everyone out, and in the spirit of helpfullness, I volunteer to be the mailer who sends from Canada to the next country.
I have a feeling though, that our "cash in the package" will disappear at the first customs inspection , so I think we should pass on that idea (no matter how charitable it is).

cheers

We could still do it while the cam is in the States and if you're willing to contribute to sending it overseas, the next person there could continue with the 'donation' and so on and so on.

Digi,

I like that idea and when I start I will thow in a couple of bucks for the border crossing. If it gets to be too expensive for someone to ship overseas and those that want to contribute via paypal or something like that.

I want in!

Anyone want to discuss if it would be a good thing to put the disposable camera in a less-disposable box tied with string or something so it'd be much easier to ship. My first thought would be a cheap rubbermaid box with a lid, then put the camera in a ziplock bag inside. We could punch a couple of holes in the lid and box through which we could thread some twine and tie it shut. (I guess tape would also work, but several generations of tape would really make the thing gummy and hard to process by various post offices.) Then, each recipient need only slap on some postage, two shipping labels, and tie it shut.

Is the topic for this roll going to be wide open, or shall we (or "you", if the event is full already) shoot on a given theme?

Finally, whose going to process it? Shall the last person on the list just take it to an hour minilab, get a photoCD and post the images? Maybe we'll have to get a special gallery from Sean if we're going to post a whole roll of images for one event. Almost certainly, that will overflow any single person's quota.

Mullet,

You're in. Just pm me your address. I left subject open, thinking that whatever struck you might strike us as well. To me the beautiful part is that none of us know what the other is shooting so it might be quite suprising. As far as how to pack the camera for shipment I am open to any suggestions for keeping it as undamaged as possible ( who knows gets a couple of cracks in it we have a 35mm Holga! ) As far as processing goes however the last person who gets it can make that decision. However, it is C41 so it will more than likely have to be done commercially. In another part of the thread David Goldfarb had some recommendations about how we can go about posting the images. Have pm'ed Sean just waiting to hear from him.

I'm not fussed. I'll volunteer to either send it on overseas from Australia or develop it, although I wouldn't take it to a minilab, but prefer a B&W pro lab to be safe after such a huge journey!

I have participated in one of these (usually refered to as chain cams), probably the ones mentioned early in this thread 'on that other site'. I think 1 out of 4 that have taken off have actually returned home, and the one that did make it back had it's journey truncated because it was taking so long and the 'owner' got it returned when they could... see this page for more details http://members.ozemail.com.au/~markthomasz/ My pic is #3 in the gallery

It seems like we have more willing photographers than there are shots on one of these cameras.

Can I suggest we split it up so that each country has its own camera? The APUGGERs from each country don't need to worry about sending it outside the borders and incurring high postage costs.

There may need to be a separate camera for the east and west coasts of USA, but otherwise there should be enough photographers from the UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand to make it work on a "per country" basis.

What do you think?

I kinda liked the idea of one camera traveling the world, so to speak. Just my opinion though - would want to do what is best for everyone. Maybe we could do the first project and send it around to the first 26 (I think that's the number of exposures) folks who responded; Kind of like a first come, first served sort of thing. Then for the 2nd project, we could continue with the list. What do ya'll think?

Hm....maybe we could have the next to the last person on the roll buy the next camera (that way the last person does not have to bear the brunt of all expenses). Then that person would post here that they have the next camera & access the next group for mailing it. It would make the process continuous and everyone would get a rather quick chance at the camera.

I have been thinking about one other thing about this... aren't those B&W disposables C-41 processed? I'll look back through the thread to see if I missed this discussion.

Actually, Ilford does make a disposable HP5+ camera... And I might be interested in doing this the second round, I like your idea Jeanette.

Art.

Or,the APUG version of flat-Stanley...
