Does anyone know, precisely, how long the actual FILM is in both 120 and 220? About 3 feet and 6 feet but precisely has anyone ever measured them? - David Lyga

Not sure how much it differs between films, but recently opened up a roll of expired Superia 100 (120) and it was almost precisely 83cm.

If you're being generally specific, 120 is about 2 3/4 feet long.

Could have been worse - "She like almost literally threw a dictionary at me!" I'm only assuming your English teacher was a hysterical woman, of course.

Rolls of 120 film from different makers are slightly different lengths as well.

"Precise" is an imprecise term.

To what accuracy do you want the measurement: ±1.0", ±0.10", ±0.010", ±0.0010", ±0.00010"? At what temperature?

What is the manufacturing tolerance? If you measure one roll, how close will that be to other rolls from other manufacturers.

Why can't you measure your own film? If you plan to use the information requested, you
must surely have tools sufficiently accurate to measure whatever you're working on.

Why do you need the information in the first place?

Leigh (et al): I meant within, say, 1/2 inch or 1 cm at room temp. But thanks, I think that I have what I need to know. 83cm is ever so slightly longer than 2.75 feet, so that is accurate enough.

BobD659's reply does, however, slightly disturb me (no 'bureau of standards' type length). - David Lyga
