"Leica MONOPAN 50 Black-and-white 35mm film with ultra-fine grain and super-panchromatic sensitisation."

That sounds like HR-50 to me.

Harman does not rebrand ILford branded products, well at least they had not in the past.

As others have noted, it looks an awful lot like they're using the Adox tub/ canister.

Hmmm, the least they could do is package it with the long tongue for their thread mount cameras (without the buyer needing to trim the leader).

Except when they let FP4+ get rebranded as Arista 125.

They'd probably let Leitz have some PanF to rebrand.

This is true, both ILford (Before bankruptcy) and Kodak sold orphaned rolls of branded products to Freestyle. Some of what Freestyle sold was ILford Pan 100 and 400 as well.

Apparently Leica's going to release their own B&W film: https://leicarumors.com/2025/06/16/...ew-black-and-white-35mm-film-from-leica.aspx/

Presumably it's just repackaged film from someone else, which raises the question: what film is it really? Adox 50? Ilford PanF? Agfa Aviphot Pan 80? It'll probably be stupidly priced, but I might by a roll just for the fun packaging.

I believe Adox HR50 is *also* Aviphot 80, apparently mildly pre-flashed to raise the base exposure level. At this point we need a list of films available that *aren't* Aviphot!

Isn't Aviphot basically just Harman Phoenis turned upside down and inside out?

Harman what now? 😳 I thought this was a family-friendly film forum!

The very brief period when Freestyle got their hands on Kodak and Ilford film that was the same as the stuff sold under those brand names was when the market was imploding, and both entities were facing potential extinction. It was an anomaly.
Both the current Harman and the out of bankruptcy Eastman Kodak will happily make different film for you, if you meet their terms.

If this film isn't an addon to announcing a forthcoming new Noctilux lens (to make the point about low ISO) it is and addon to celebrate 100 years of the Leica 1, and whatever Leica announce around that. If it is HR-50 I'm annoyed because it will divert an already on-off supply chain to off-off-on-off.....

there's nothing stopping this from being a newly made film, but is Leitz willing to pay for a whole new big roll of film? If it's ilford, it's probably plain old PanF+. If it Adox, it's probably HR50. It's really unlikely it's a new emulsion. It could be Aviphot with a special development time.

It would not be. They would offer to make you an ISO 50 emulsion to your spec if you asked, but they won't sell you Pan-F+ for rebranding, no matter your assumptions based on things that happened nearly a generation ago. Kentmere is a different matter (and part of the reason for its continued existence).

... would they even make a Panatomic-X style film, maybe with double layer and longer scale?
Just dreaming... ;-)
