they won't sell you Pan-F+ for rebranding, no matter your assumptions based on things that happened nearly a generation ago.
It's not based on what happened in the past. They can change their policy at any time.
We'll see what the film is, eventually. It's probably not PanF+.
I just looked at Leica's ad they sent to my email and if I had to guess by looking at the test photos of the film, I'd say it probably is HR-50. Of course, we won't know until somebody uses it and reports back.
I'm excited. At last my film photos will have that "Leica Look"!
i think HR50 is *also* aviphot 80, but with a light pre-flashing to raise the threshold for shadow detail. so really almost all the candidates are ultimately aviphot 80 - especially since leica mentioned it's sensitivity into the near-IR, which is kind of aviphot's thing.
From the sample photos provided by Leica, I would also agree that it is most likely HR-50 from the look of it. At least it did not charge too much a Leica premium.
So, you are basing the "it's probably not PanF+" on some other fact (something like PanF+ is not good enough film for Leica, etc.) and not on the statements from the past 20 years of Harman existence that no Ilford film is or will be sold under any other name?
... would they even make a Panatomic-X style film, maybe with double layer and longer scale?
Just dreaming... ;-)
They'd probably ask if you've swallowed a cookbook - hook, line and sinker.
Hmm...
Saw that there was a video about it of a channel called Jamie & The Jam shooting it if anyones interested:
And a screenshot showing some of the dev times inside of the box:
But, this is the Leica Way.Nice packing, btw. But buying a film just for that? No.
