I think we all know who it is.

I think no one is willing to assume it's anyone in particular. But you should be sure you are justified in making this claim against someone before you get specific. Your camera may be a train wreck inside. (Although $800 is just plain too high for almost any repair to your camera.)

I should have sent it to him….

I just looked at my M2 and one other thing occurred to me.

The exposure counter plate underneath the film advance lever can sometimes work itself up and rub on the bottom of the film advance, causing friction during the advance. The fix is simple: Push straight down on two opposite sides of
that plate and it will snap back into place.

I haven't any idea. Unless it is Leica? but, no. Leica would have take a year and a half and at least two tries.

Also before you give me an almost $800 bill an estimate should be given.
“This is how much it’s going to be. Do you want to proceed…”
Damned right! Why is it we can never get this kind of basic business communication from (most) camera repair techs?

DAG has always given me an approximate estimate with the understanding that, if it's going to be a lot more than this, I get a call first. No issues.

Second, there's what I hate, called CLA (cleaning, lubricating, adjusting), because such a thing doesn't exist.
You need to open the camera in order to access to all components.
CLA means that you just remove old lubricants and put new ones.
That does NOTHING to your camera, especially if there are worn or broken parts, gears and/or curtains.

Only if the repair service is dishonest or incompetent. I have been in the repair business (not cameras) and have had my cameras fixed by a number of different specialists. When asking for a CLA, it is understood that - if a defect needs to be fixed or a part replaced - the repair person will notify the customer, inform them of the problem and quote the repair price.

I would never expect to get back a CLAed camera with known defects, unless they were disclosed to me. If that happened, I'd demand my money back and never do business with that person again.

Almost $800 later repair by a usual suspect the wind is better but still sucks! His excuse was leica’s were custom made so not the same. Last camera I send. From Now one I will just put them on the shelf.
I hate those Leica repair people./

Should have sent it to KEH. They've never charged me any more to do a repair while doing a CLA.

My experience too.

Unfortunately I've seen too much damage and incompetence with trendy "designer" camera repair one-person shops to use them. I only send mine to a reputable camera repair shop, or if available the manufacturer.

Just having a screw driver does not qualify one to make camera and lens repairs.
