On one hand, sapguy hit it. On the other hand, if the camera was represented as working properly you're entitled to a refund or a repair.
I recently ran into not one, but two Canon IIb rf 39mm screwmount cameras. One is too nice to use as it should be used, it has 99.95% original finish and the curtains leak light - you can use it if you cap the lens until you are ready to push the button, then recap it immediately. The other is a nice clean user but has curtains that light up like a Japanese lantern, and after lubricating the shutter it sounds like new - I mean really, it runs and sounds like a new camera. Shutter is accurate too.
Both cameras need a complete teardown and overhaul with new curtains. I can do this myself, and I enjoy doing it. They are less than 1000 apart in serial numbers and were both made in 1949, bearing the "Made in Occupied Japan" marking. The useable one is sitting right next to me with a 1946 Summitar mounted and a roll of 25 speed Efke in it. This is part of the territory of dealing with old stuff, be it cameras, cars, radios...
