I received a leica iiif today that I purchased from a well known camera dealer. It came with a 180 day warranty..... It has sticky shutter release and the shutter curtain looks like it is dry rotten (many cracks). I don't know if I want to send it back or not.... I paid 179 for it and am thinking it would be better just to have it repaired, that way I know what I have when it's done....... Where would you send it if you where in this situation?

I can't imagine why you would want to triple the price of what you paid by having it overhauled when a good one should only cost a little bit more. Send it back, or if they said it was fully working invoke the warranty and have them repair it, that is what a warranty is for. FWIW some dealers do try it on when selling cameras and say they are fully working when in fact they are untested, then only the ones that come back need sevicing, not all of them.

Ya wanna play (in the classic camera playpen) ya gotta pay. I've got maybe 50 olde cameras that need work including a fine looking Rolleiflex with a warped back.

On one hand, sapguy hit it. On the other hand, if the camera was represented as working properly you're entitled to a refund or a repair.
I recently ran into not one, but two Canon IIb rf 39mm screwmount cameras. One is too nice to use as it should be used, it has 99.95% original finish and the curtains leak light - you can use it if you cap the lens until you are ready to push the button, then recap it immediately. The other is a nice clean user but has curtains that light up like a Japanese lantern, and after lubricating the shutter it sounds like new - I mean really, it runs and sounds like a new camera. Shutter is accurate too.
Both cameras need a complete teardown and overhaul with new curtains. I can do this myself, and I enjoy doing it. They are less than 1000 apart in serial numbers and were both made in 1949, bearing the "Made in Occupied Japan" marking. The useable one is sitting right next to me with a 1946 Summitar mounted and a roll of 25 speed Efke in it. This is part of the territory of dealing with old stuff, be it cameras, cars, radios...

Thomas said it. Youxin Ye knows these old Barnacks very well and you can have it back in a couple of weeks.
179$ is a good price for a IIIf if the camera is in excellent condition (Apart from the shutter) but if it is in user condition send it back, there are plenty IIIF's for sale. It will always be a gamble to get one that is in perfect working order unless you know the seller.

What he^^^^^^^said Youxin Yee is very good but you're going to see about $200. for the work. $200. is very
reasonable too. I just had a lllG done & it's as smooth as can be.
I don't know if that would include the curtains.

Now. You have $180. in the camera + around @200. repair. You do get a known good camera.
If you get a $300.ish camera you MAY need to add that $200. anyway

Ask Youxin if he has one. I got a really nice user grade IIIf red dial with a full CLA done from him for $300.

I looked the camera over again this morning and decided that if I could get a partial reasonable refund I would keep it and have it cla/repaired. I emailed them and told them what I thought of the whole deal and they apologized and offered me a partial refund... Not as much as I would like put good enough. Thank you for your input and I plan on sending it to Youxin soon..........
