Apug!

I just received my MHXPRO-3W to use with my RZ67 Pro ii and 645AF - hopefully that head was a good choice for this body, anyone use this combo?

I was HOPING to use this head with my (vintage-ish) Slik legs, as they are perfectly reliable, but with a new head it'd be top notch. Sadly, I did not reference the size of the leg's screw mount, and it is slightly smaller that 1/4-20. So, I guess next pay check will be a pair of legs, likely Manfrotto. Anyone have a suggestion? I am looking for lightweight, but something that can get close to the ground easily, I do some macro work in nature from time to time. Other than that, landscapes and portraits.

The thread in your new head is 3/8-16. Many Slik tripods (e.g., 500DX) have a 1/4-20 mount. Sounds like you need a 3/8-16 to 1/4-20 adapter. Easy to find, not expensive. If you have a local camera store they probably have it, or go to your favorite retailer's website and search for "3/8-16 to 1/4-20 reducer bushing" or similar wording and you should have no problem.

That's strange, I was assuming 1/4 20 was more common and therefor manfrotto would use it, not sure how I overlooked this. Is there any benefit to one over the other?

3/8 is stronger, so it's commonly used for heads and larger legsets that could take substantial loading. So the heads need it to fit on the larger legsets, even if 1/4 would be adequate for the head size. In my experience, only small heads which are intended only for smaller tripods will have the 1/4 thread.

BTW, LMNOP, you are obviously a man of letters. Say hi to QRSTU for me.
And welcome to APUG.

Haha thanks, I always hate having I generate yet another username.

Anyone have a good leg suggestion? I'm thinking [h=1]Manfrotto 055XPROB[/h]

That's very popular and well liked. I think it will be adequate for your RZ.
