OK, this is weird, I have to reorient when I close either eye. And I can make it work for either eye depending on what thumb I hold up. If I use my right thumb I'm right eyed, but if I hold up my left thumb then I'm left eyed. (or maybe I'm doing it wrong).

I just went back to the how to do this post, and when I hold my thumb out and focus on my thumb, I see two background objects, when I focus on the background object I see two thumbs. So I just have to pick one. Maybe I'm still doing it wrong, or maybe neither one is dominant. I don't know.

I had the same problem. Hold thumb out - focus both eyes on THUMB and cover distant object with thumb. Close one eye and then the other.

I have no master eye either. I can also write with either hand etc. I use my left eye when photographing, probably due to learning photography with a RF in my youth. I have noticed however that one eye sees colors a bit warmer than the other. A real devil when I'm color printing!

Interesting thread. Either predominanace of Left eyed photographers, or only they feel compelled to reply, or indeed due to cross-eyed polarisation effect only they could see the thread subject.

Another combination for me, just to keep things moving!

Left-eyed, left handed single hand tasks, right handed double hand tasks, kick ball with both feet, right with more power, left more accuracy.

Right handed, right eyed, right foot and right brained (assuming it is functioning), I shoot both a bow and Gun right handed, but cross my left arm over my right when I cross my arms, same with my left thumb over right when I clasp my hands to pray for the wind to stop.

My wrist doctor had a weird sense of humor. He said "true ambidexterity means you can wipe your rear with either hand. Writing with both hands is easy try wiping your rear." Okay maybe over the line but he had a point.

left-eyed, left footed, and right-handed. my genetics professor didn't think it was possible (the genes are linked and are thought to be in order eye, hand, foot, so to have the middle one different is odd). I've only shot a gun a few times, but I think I'd use my left eye.

Since you close one eye when looking through a camera, why should it matter which eye is dominant?
aha, there in is another survey question. When using a 50mm lense I learned long ago that closing the other eye is not necessary. Now, if I was not shooting with my dominant eye I would probably close the other.

I always shoot with both eyes open, partly because that's how I was taught to fire a rifle and partly so I can see whats happening when I'm shooting at public protests / demonstrations. I wouldn't want to get run down by charging Police Horses

I use both eyes with the waist level finder...

I think left eye subpeople should be exterminated to cleanse the human race.

Left eye, right handed, right footed and play tennis with both hands (just to confuse the opponent).

Now how does it go again: Is it the right eye or the left eye that makes one more creative???

Isn't that a tad unfair on your opponent... surely one racquet is enough?

Left handed, (and footed), right eyed for camera and firearms. I shoot 35mm so rarely now I had to go pick one up to remember. Can do some manual tasks equally well either hand but nothing athletic or requiring fine motor skills. So how many left handed people are members here? I suppose I should start one of those poll threads with the cool colored bars but I'm supposed to be working so I don't have time to figure out how to do it

Right eyed/handed/footed... just to confuse matters... how do you people hold the camera (rf or slr) when shooting portrait? I find it more comfortable with the shutter release at the 'bottom-right' as you look at the back of the camera in portrait orientation. Some say that's a bit cack-handed but I find it awkward reaching 'over the top' with my right hand for the shutter release.

I'm the opposite. I hate having my hand, cocked way down there below the camera. Very awkward. I find having it on top, much more natural and comfortable. That's why I no longer use my Stroboframe "flash-flip", I love the "camera-flip" model.

Left-handed, left-eyed, switchhitter with bat (decades ago), and play golf right-handed. It has been so long since I started looking through a viewfinder that I don't remember having any problem with being stuck in the eye with the lever.
At this point the best thing is that with my nearsightedness I don't really require a loupe to focus on the ground glass.

Left handed, left footed, left eyed.
On the other hand, play guitar and violin the "right" way.

Left eyed, right handed, left footed, same as you. I found out I was left-eyed when I first picked up a rifle.

Rifles are definately not built for us left eyed folk. I found that out too! A camera does not leave a permanent scar...

Tom (who heard someone say "I'd give my left arm to ambidextrous")

Right eyed, handed, footed, but can't hold/swing a bat, golf club or field hockey stick any way other than left handed. How's that for weird?

Same here on the color balance. I thought maybe I shifted one eye (my left, of course) during thousands of ours spent peeping through the eyepiece of a telescope! Are you an astronomer by chance??
