Thanks for the heads up. I'm just finishing up a couple of boxes of colour 4x5 to send to them. I hope all goes well, I enjoy working with them.

Just to save others the lookup, their new address is: 472 West 15th Avenue, Vancouver

It is the old G. King Photo building - just east of Cambie Street.

List which labs have affordable and reliable C-41 develop + CD (batch low-res scan).

This used to be a very affordable often 1-hour process (around $4 per roll for develop + CD) on a Frontier lab in a "box" store nearby, but no longer. Yes, they would sometimes fingerprint the negs, scratch while sleeving or in transport or even slice through one. But it was cheap and fast. Now it seems I can't find a "pro" lab that would do this, the closest I found is Dwayne's. Their mail order service will develop + scan to CD for about $8 + shipping.

Labs near me like Dorian are set up to do high-quality to-print scans, which is not what I want at all. I just want C-41 35mm/120 film developed, cut and sleeved, not scratched and something that replaces wasted paper for editing down. Photo CD is perfect for me in that role.

*sigh*

This is more of a rant, I know I have to mail my film to Dwaynes.

For the past six years or so I have been sending all my color work (Kodachrome, subsequently Ekatchrome) via UPS/Fedex to Dwayne's Photo of Parsons, KS. Their prices are competitive and their work has been consistent from day one; I have yet to experience any lab screwups. Accordingly, for any E6 work, I can give them an unqualified recommendation. As far as black and white goes, I cannot offer any suggestions. I have never been satisfied with b&w machine processing so I have almost always done my own b&w work (souping and printing, 35mm, 2 1/4 and 4x5). For a list of services offered by Dwayne's, check out their website, www.dwaynesphoto.com.

I wanted to find some big box store nearby that sends to Dwayne to cut down on shipping costs, does anyone know: Boston area?

Anyone know any great cross process E-6 to C-41 labs? Does anyone know anyone local (Los Angeles) that does it. This is just for personal work, so I don't need RPL, but I'd still like a good lab.

Great thread btw.

You didn't say whether you shoot E-6, C-41, or B+W film. The E-6 Fuji mailers that are available from B&H have Dwayne's address on them. Wal-Mart contracts with Fuji to do their send-out processing, so it is logical to assume that at least the E-6 through Wal-Mart's send-out ends up at Dwayne's. I've not had any problems sending E-6 through Wal-Mart's send-out (though I do mark the special instructions box and note that it is E-6 film not C-41 to make sure it goes through the right process). Not sure about the C-41 or B+W, though I've sent some C-41 through their send-out and the quality has been reasonably good. C-41 is back in 3-6 days, add a week on to that for E-6.

ME Super

Happy with Toronto Image Works http://www.torontoimageworks.com/, consistent, same-day service(in by 11 out by 3)for b&w, C-41, E-6. Really the only pro lab left in Toronto. Sadly, they dropped proof/print service from film in late 2011 but I'm moving to hybrid anyway.

In Chicago, I am happy with Phoenix Imaging, successor to Precision on Grand Avenue.
Dead Link Removed

I use them for E-6 processing (120, 4x5, 8x10), scanning, and digital printing.

I have started a similar thread here.
(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

See post #22 there for my logic for doing so.

Walmart E6 Processing

Still going strong.
They send the film to Fuji.
My local Walmart has twice-a-week pickup and delivery.
Medium format 120 E-6 processed, uncut, $4.88.
Took 10 days to complete the porcess.
Excellent results.
Be sure to mark the bag, "E-6 Slides-Do Not Mount".

Creative Photo in Fort Myers. Last place in Southwest Florida that develops film. They do a great job.

And they always have a smile, glad to see you walk in with rolls of 35mm. Unlike the old Ritz Camera in Naples, which always wanted to know what I was doing still using film and not buying one of their DSLRs. Good riddance to them!

UPDATE: The last E6 processing line in Dallas is being shut down on 7 Mar. They will still offer C-41 and B&W services...

i brought 30 or so files ( sorry modern day )to kerrys warwick 1 hour photo to be printed for a show
this past january, she printed them masterfully, as good if not better than the pro labs i have used.
i believe she will mail order as well.
if you have b/w she also does that too...

I recently had 20-25 rolls of E6 done at NCPS. Very happy with their service and attitude. They have a great loupe/light table you can borrow and they won't laugh at you when your jaw drops the floor.

Also had similar number of rolls of C41 done at Gaslamp Photo in San Diego, very "efficient" service and very nice looking prints, even on old expired crap from the 70s.

Does anyone know of a lab in the Midwestern USA offering C-41 and black and white processing, optical prints up to 8x10, and good scans (such as Imacon, Noritsu, or a drum scanner)?

Major problem for me: North Coast Photographic Services (NCPS) is no longer mounting 35mm slides. The lady I spoke to said they can't find mounts for their machine.

Ugh.

Then they should order their slide mounts in Germany. No problems here to get slide mounts for automatic mounting by machines. All professional E6 labs are offering it if the customer wants it.
Nevertheless I always recommend mounting by oneselve at home.
Because
- you then can choose the best mounts for projection, like the Diaspeed HT-XYZ slide mounts (they are even better than the Wess)
- you choose just your keepers and mount them
- by mounting at home you look more intensive at your pictures, you are a bit "forced" to analyse them and find the best ones which are really worth to be mounted.

Best regards,
Henning

A lot of the mounting machines for plastic mounts will only take one brand of Mounts, so if the one they need is discontinued or no longer sold in their area that are out of luck. Possible niche market for the entrepreneurs in the audience.

Charles,

which machine are they using and which mounts do they need?

Best regards,
Henning

I am not the folk who posted that they were having trouble. Perhaps the person that posted can find out that information.

Sorry Charles, you are right. I've confused you with the OP.

Best regards,
Henning
