I'm wondering what type of 9x12 holders will work in KW Patent Etui 9x12 metal folding bed camera. None of my dozen holders from various makers work.

I have used several 9x12 cameras (Voigtlander Avus, Voigtlander Bergheil, Mentor Primar Reflex, ICA) and a dozen 9x12 metal sheet film holders (Voigtlander, Kodak, no name), and they all kind of fit each other except some holders are a bit too short. But none of the 9x12 holders fit the Patent Etui: the groove on the Patent Etui seems very narrow thus none of the holders can slide in more than half an inch (I don't want to force anything".

Does the Patent Etui use a special kind of film holders with thinner lips? Any help will be welcome, since the Patent Etui is such a wonderfully compact design that beg to be used when out and about.

I have a 6x9 KW and I just went to take a look. It appears the answer is yes. I've owned the thing for 30 years but have never used it. I do remember having to thin a roll film holder to get it to fit but thought nothing of it at the time. I have four plate holders for it, three Zeiss and one DRP whatever that is. Since I have never used it, I didn't know that the Zeiss holders don't fit.... The DRP holder has a lip that is only .5mm. The Zeiss holders are around 1.4mm. The DRP holder is also shorter. Looks like they made holders specifically for it unfortunately.

Hope that helps...

I just looked it up. I have a couple of different holders (no names on them) that fit easily, so I never realized that the groves are quite narrow indeed. And yes, some holders from other cameras don't fit. I have a Rollex 6x9 roll film holder that fits and even the 3D printed holder for the Lomo Graflok back fits the KW Patent Etui.

Thank you for all the responses. Indeed the lip is a bit narrower on the Patent Etui.

Good news is that I actually found 3 Contessa-Nettel holders as well as one Rada roll film holder that work! I put them away because they were a bit wobbly on the Avus, but now they fit perfectly on the Patent Etui, Sometimes it pays to be a hoarder. 😂

What lens does your Patent Etui have?

I'm a hoarder myself and made a shelf in a wardrobe break because of all the photo equipment. 😄 I found a roll film holder that fit the 9x12 Avus in the pile of stuff.

I have the Meyer Gorlitz Anastigmat Trioplan 135/4.5 lens, a triplet that I like for people photos.

One of the best triplets and maybe more fun than the Tessar. I have a 6x9 Patent Etui with a Meyer, but a Helioplan.
