Have they always said "For commercial and industrial use only" on them for the general public?

Yes XTOL always said that even going way back

I seem to recall HC-110 carrying that wording, too -- maybe as far back as my first bottle in the early/mid 1970s.

All the Kodak chemicals I can recall have said that.
The Tri-Chem packs might not have - but I don't know that I ever read them that closely (I was 11 the last time I used them).

It is interesting that the first photograph shows a copyright date of 2019. Obviously that is the date of the general package design, but it seems the packaging has been updating with Sino Promise data. It is probably just Sino Promise updating the previous registration to their new ownership.

I may use Kodak-branded products in the future, but since I don't have access to any local shops where I can inspect the bags, will likely wait until good reports come in.

If I were SinoPromise then in order to signal a change I'd want to have a new design that I presume drops the name Kodak. The chemicals are nothing to do with Kodak anyway and I am sure that the problems of what is hopefully the past are not ones that the current Kodak company , a film manufacturer only, would want associated with its name

As with many employer-employee contracts, there may be a non-compete clause in the Kodak-SinoPromise agreement. Surely Kodak would protect itself from creating a competitor enabled by use of the Kodak brand, and surely Kodak benefits (or had hoped to benefit) from its license agreement with SinoPromise.

Yes there may be contractual reasons why the name Kodak is still attached to the packets but in fact it isn't Kodak as it was once known to be. The chemicals part of Kodak has been Kodak Alaris for a number of years and KA, as I understand it, has nothing to do in any commercial sense with what is now Kodak the still film maker which we might now term Eastman Kodak or EK

It might be that SinoPromise also believes that it still gains from an association with Kodak but given the problems with a number of KA chemicals then I simply wondered if SP would not have decided to take the chance of a clean break to make the point that what were problems with KA chemicals were no longer problems now SP is involved

Kodak Alaris is the sole authorized primary distributor and marketer of Kodak still film products, and it is quite likely that Eastman Kodak is not permitted to sell any still film products to anyone other than through Kodak Alaris.
They both have their headquarters in Rochester New York.
My understanding is that the technical people at Kodak Alaris, the marketing people at Kodak Alaris, and the technical people in the film division of Eastman Kodak worked together on the re-introduction of Ektachrome, the backing paper problems with 120, and the work they have done since on potential new products.
That development work has been severely impacted by Covid 19.

I just mixed up my second batch (and last bag) of Xtol from the bad batch and developed a roll of Delta 400. No issues with this set of chemicals either,

I wish I would have been that lucky too!

xtol is now available at freestylephoto. I hope it is a better batch.

Due to work I’ve been mostly offline for the last year, and I just saw this. I have 3 unopened bags with one of the affected date codes. I tried emailing the email address in the first post on page one, and it bounced and undeliverable because no such email address existed.

Without reading through all 33 pages, is there an alternative route to getting these replaced, or do I lose because I’m a few months late?

Can you contact the shop you purchased it from?

yeah I double checked that I got it from freestyle, and I just sent them a message. Hopefully they’ll be able to help me. It’s only $36 if it’s a loss, but for the first time in a year I was able to take some time to photograph, and now I can’t develop any of it. A little frustrating. <sigh>

I've had no problems with Xtol from this suspect batch, if that's any consolation.

good to know. For misc around town shooting, I’d happily take the chance, but the rolls in my queue at the moment are from a trip to Big Bend NP a few weeks ago, and I’m hesitant to take a chance on them.

Good luck with that; I got radio silence from both Sino and Freestyle.

In the email I got in December, I was told to expect replacement Xtol by mid-February. It’s now mid-April and I’ve received nothing. And yet, new product is available in all the retail stores. A month ago I was mildly annoyed. Now, I’m genuinely pissed off. I’m done with “Kodak” chemistry.

Have not opened it yet. Date is brand spanking new. also 13 is my lucky number.

Did you buy that bag? Or....snicker....snicker......was that the replacement sent to you?

Fresh order from freestyle
