Kodak TXP Image Ident Mark

In the latest Kodak press release Re:320TXP in Sheets... they state 'Each sheet has a latent image identification mark "320TXP" and a notch code that is visible before and after processing.' Just curious how intrusive the text is for contact printing, on 11x14 sheets does the text appear once or does it appear at intervals around the entire film rebate. Also what is the best way to eliminate the '320TXP' text when contact printing.

Checking some of my contact prints, I did not find any such marking, but these are prints made over the last 2 years. If the new batch has the markings, It is probably in the margin, outside the picture area. In that case it would not be intrusive at all, as any frame that fits (where the hell did 4x5 frames go anyway, haven't seen one in a while) would cover the marks.

My concern was that when doing platinum printing that there would be a necklace of '320TXP' printing out about the image.

It is the new stuff that has the marking.

Annie, regardless if it is all around or only once, if you print full frame showing the brush strokes the ident mark will show. Frankly I hope they dont do this since most of the time 11x14 are to be used for contact printing, seems kind of silly of them to ruin a print by having the ident mark on the edge of the film, but then that is Kodak for you, left hand does not know what the right one is doing.

If they do this foolishness and the ident mark is only one then you might be able to bleach it out. Of course if it is all around then this would be really hard work, I would suggest then that you mask the edge and show the print without brush strokes.

Looks like you are right. Well, I have heard the J and C film is very nice and comes in 400 speed. You might want to think about it if you want to show the entire print with brush strokes.

The 4x5 Tmax I just purchased has the ident marking on the edge at the notch end of the film. It can be removed by scraping with an exacto knife.

Sounds simple enough.... I don't want to give up on TXP just yet... it still has a zing that I have been unable to get from the J&C Classics so far.

I've tried several films but always end up going back to good old Tri-x. Think I'll stick with it until it's no longer available...
