regarding Velvia, the only thing I've seen is that March 2017 is the expected shipment end time for 220 Velvia and Velvia 100F in 4x5 and 8x10 (for example at http://www.diyphotography.net/fujif...lvia-and-provia-films-other-get-a-price-bump/). Do you have a reference for this leak? V. invested in this info; I use V100 for almost all of my color work.

that's what it says. "220 Fujichrome Velvia 100. Prospects for shipment end time: March 2017"
looks like you can still buy it in Japan (http://www.japanexposures.com/shop/film-analog/velvia-100-220-5-pack.html)

Velvia 100 in 220 format was discontinued a couple of years ago in a major cull of low-volume emulsions. If you come across any now it is aged/legacy stock.

You're quite right Dan, that's the rumor I was talking about (e.g. http://photorumors.com/2015/07/11/a...hic-film-some-products-will-get-discontinued/). Since I'm mostly an 8x10 shooter I remembered that as being a full discontinuation but in fact it's large and some medium format sizes only.

The blue cast turned me off to Eektachrome permanently. Yes scanning is how it will be done about 98% of the time.If you are going to scan why not cut out the middle man...
Kodak is on precarious ground, they stand to disappoint a lot of photographers and lose more users if they don't pull this off. Even announcing introduction of new 35mm slide film well before its availability could backfire.This is what happened with the Edsel. It was media hyped for so long before its arrival,expectations were so high, that its appearance was a let down.Could Eektachrome be the Edsel of film?

It's still around...I can buy it (and Fuji 160NS) in 220 at Yodobashi here in Japan - although, since I don't shoot it, I haven't checked the dates. However, I did buy some Velvia for a film exchange in early 2015 that had 1.5 years left for the expiration date:

bull, I was pointing out that its possible to turn off people to a product if it doesn't perform up to its hype. I'm glad that Kodunk is entertaining introducing "new" film.
But by the same token, I'm not going to run out and buy a lot of it based on what is stated on the forums.

I found no cast problems with the lastest Ektachromes i used, when they were fresh. Perhaps color was even better than Provia, although i was always satisfied with Provia 100F.

No, i didn't make the video. The video was genius. Of course, in Germany this video will make no laughs at all and will be consider of very bad taste, because of local reasons that would merit a sociological and psychological essay alone. But elsewhere, those videos and the people who make them ("untergangers") are very popular.

Hitler was right in that video: you can get it from Stalin. Sort of. With a little bit of Web searching, you will find a seller in Russia that will send you new mercury PX625 batteries world-wide. Apparently these batteries are still being produced for the Russian military.

Whether or not you were joking~ you are correct, the Eecktachrome color tendency was objectionable depending on the color of the subject.I never liked it for my images. Kodachrome 64 was more to my liking, I have long since gone to another option.No I didn't watch the vid as I find its reference objectionable.

Kodachrome cost a fortune back in the day, I never shot it as it was always out of my price range. I stuck to the free roll of film CraPrint sent me with the pack of disappointingly poor prints from my last roll (repeat until hobby is crushed! ;-)

If they bring it back today it would surely have to be even more crazy expensive due to the tiny market left to sell to.

I would love to be able to shoot a roll of Kodachrome. I can't see it ever happening though, unfortunately.

If we were to have a poll today of course there would be a lot of people that would say they'd love to shoot Kodachrome and tick the "hell yeah I'd buy it" box.

But I'm sure a very large percentage of those same people will exclaim "how much?!" If it were reintroduced and not buy any anyway once they find out just how much it would cost with processing.

Ektachrome makes more sense to reintroduce with it being E6. At least it can be DIY processed.

Yes it is expensive. We cannot get chemistry so DIY is out of the question, well I suppose you can import them but Germany wanted a lot for it to New Zealand ($60US just for freight) and the other assoc. costs I just won't shoot much of it. Chemistry expire quicker for colour. Yearly binge process?

Even going with USA prices, $10US for a roll of 135 format slide film. $9US for processing (Dwaynes or AGX etc). $3-6US per roll delivered depending on how much rolls you did for the $45US there and back postal.
For me 135 cost $0.70US per click. 120 format slides $1.80US per click.

B/W film with the DIY processing cost a quarter. Am thinking if I should just shoot B/W.

I seem to remember selling a 36 exposure roll of process paid Kodachrome for something like $9.00 or $10.00 CDN.
That is a 35+ year old memory, so I could be off a bit

I recall I bought 2 rolls of Kodachrome imported to New Zealand exported to Dwaynes 1yr or so before it was canned.

My filed invoice:
November 2004 - Kodachrome 64 Pro (PKR) $11.49US, Kodachrome 64 non-pro $5.99US, Fuji Velvia RVP $4.99US. Kodak Ektachrome E100VS $6.29US.

To my knowledge all 220 was discontinued by Fuji last year, but I could be wrong. I only really import the Velvia50 4x5/8x10 and Acros100 8x10 because it's not available here, so I don't keep abreast of all the Fuji line stuff quite as closely as I probably should.

I have one pro-pack of the last batch of Velvia50 220, I really need to use it or sell it. I don't need it sitting around.

It feels like while new DSLRs are released with more megapixels and stratospheric ISO, the technology of autofocus, metering, and shutters aren't really more advanced on new cameras than an F6.

The new Canon 1D X II has a 14fps rate and is only 20mp, they focused on shutter, focus, metering and other features. Just as an example. But it doesn't shoot film which is what this forum is about. So let's focus on the ektachroke and E-6 joy
