It feels like while new DSLRs are released with more megapixels and stratospheric ISO, the technology of autofocus, metering, and shutters aren't really more advanced on new cameras than an F6.
Advances in circuitry, changes to packaging would suggest a new model could or would be introduced after 13 years. the fact there have been no changes leave you with the impression that Nikon isn't going to put R&D into a new model. The F-6 is the longest running model with the exception of the F-3.
Certainly battery technology has advanced and they could take advantage of that fact alone and repackage that behemoth.

What exactly would you want changed?

There is very little in film cameras that could be done and would need to be done that has not been done. And yes, there isn't much market for it now so of course they aren't developing and bringing to market new cameras. But the fact there is SOME market is, itself, remarkable given the prices and availability of perfectly functional used equipment.

The FM10 is also not "made by Fisher Price." Chinon I think? Who have a history of making affordable and completely competent and functional cameras.

Manufactured by Cosina, and yes, it's a great little camera.

Whew. So glad I don't have to worry about Velvia 100. (More than I already did.)

Many things.

Ektachrome... i can't stand its bluish tint. Even when using a #2A filter. And don't get me started on the horrible grain my 20x24s displayed. And printing to Cibachrome... just made things worse! I just want to vomit!

Kodak should have released Kodachrome instead. Nice, bright colors.

Velvia 100 in 220 format was discontinued a couple of years ago in a major cull of low-volume emulsions. If you come across any now it is aged/legacy stock.

Thanks for this info!!

I started transferring a couple of thousand old slides from carousels to archival slide pages this morning, and the first four I pulled out were Ektachromes from 1976. Completely faded - little color except brown. Fortunately, the fifth one, and the ones thereafter, were Kodachomes, and they were vibrant and looked like new. I'm sure Ektachome improved over the years; hopefully it will be fade resistant when reintroduced.

I go to other forums or social media commentary and people are almost unanimously really excited and positive about this announcement.

Here, it gets picked apart.

Its always been picked apart by serious Kodachrome users.

I'm about a serious a Kodachrome user as any you will find, I don't pick things apart. Instead, I master them, find their limits and make adjustments as needed. The last version of E100 I used was excellent, needing less UV counter filtration at my elevation of 8,000-12,000 feet than Kodachrome did.

The film is not even out yet, maybe find something better to do than beat an unborn horse?

I'm very positive and excited by the introduction of Ektachrome.

The rest of my posts, if you took the time to read through the pages of this thread, you would see the reason for them.

As for APUG, the difference with other forums is that here there is a greater percentage of hardcore, well-experienced film users and a smaller percentage of beginners or occasional film users. Couple this with the fact that the moderation team gives us freedom to express freely what we really think, and you'll find also criticism where there are things to criticize.

I have some from the '60s and they vary. Some are fading but some are just fine. IDK what the problem is, but it is probably the process. I have been able to restore many of them during scanning for upload.

Since E6 was processed by a number of vendors, perhaps not everyone's chemicals were up to snuff.

I guess...seems like once the negative tack starts, it is all it is at that point. I guess people really like it, the endless debating, the bashing, the conspiracy theories, the speculations and the constant asking for what they don't have and not showing appreciation for what we do have.

To each his own I guess, but based on the PM's (4 now) sent to me recently saying thank you for posting it, a fair number of people here think it stinks.....I also think the bitching stinks.
