Nope it's five inch wide perforated roll 2402. A 350 foot roll of it.
Cutting it into four inch pieces, which fit a standard 4x5 film holder

I've cut down four sheets in 5x7. I can process four sheets (bought the Paterson 5x7 Reel) and I can run four 5x7's, and two rolls of 35mm to fill out in the Paterson five reel tank. Planning to use inversion agitation, if this works I will buy more 4x5 and 5x7 reels. I'll keep going with D23 1:1 just bought more chemicals. Also may expand my JOBO stuff if this film is OK. My Omega 5x7 E-3 enlarger is in usuable condition, we will see

And Yep I'm dusting off a 5x7 Norma to take out back. Now, the lens.............

My finest film holders in 4x5" are these Linhof Film and Plate Holders. They appear to hold very tightly the slightly thinner base 2402 Plus-X Aero cut down sheets. Indeed very tightly and completely uber flat. I used these holders a lot shooting landscapes long ago, and these holders are deluxe in every way. And each has a lever, to eject the sheet partially out, when unloading. Yay. No scraping up the sheets fishing them out of the holders. I use a scrap 4x5 sheet to set up a masking tape stop which I can easily find in the dark.

I have a Plaubel Makiflex Back that adjusts precisely to accept these thicker Linhof Holders. Made for using them in fact, uber Plaubel quality. I have six of these holders, along with some in 9x12cm, but not going there with that right now. Do have four sheets of 5x7 loaded up to shoot in the studio soon. As you can see, I have stocked up on 8x10 HRU, and 18x24 Mammo Plus-X Aero is completely different from XRAY

Hi guys. I'm new here. And I am purchasing 2401 expired in 1970 film (the film before the one everyone is talking about) hopefully my images come out well.

Wow. Some greedy sneaky jerk took my bid the very last second on eBay. But I bid another one. And won. I feel bad. I must have taken whoever had first placed their bid on it.

I have a question being new to photography in general. How long would I expose this film on a sunny day? It expired in 1970 but it's the same film. And can I develop it in Ortho litho developer?

Gotta test it. Shoot at different times and see what works best.

I've never used Ortho litho so I don't know one way or another.

Here's an image done on 3404 Plus X which is the same as yours but thinner substrate so they can cram 1000 feet on a roll. This is 5" with the perf's. I don't treat it any different than ordinary Plus X. Shoot it at 125. This image was the first test with a new to me Cirkut camera so it's pretty rough and reddy. Developed in a 4' long piece of 2" sewer pipe. Pyrocat HD. Nice sharp image if I can clean up the other damage. Developed last Saturday so this is real time. Would love to trade someone or buy some that doesn't have the perforations. Not helping anything in the Cirkut camera. 3404 is 3 mil. Very thin stuff.

You need to figure out what speed it is through experimentation. Start at iso100, then iso50, etc. Dropping the speed also compensates for film fog (which might be bad after 50 years) Develop in a normal developer like D76 and consider getting some additional restrainer to help with the fog. Lith developer will generate too much contrast with no shadow detail - you wouldn't have a clue what the film's actual speed is using that.

I have a 70mm perfed 500 foot roll of the Plus-X Recon 3404. Bought it ten years ago seemed a good deal considering eighty bucks for 500 feet! Yes it's thin it kinks really easily. Now that I am getting ramped up for 70mm (just bought another RH50 Graflex XL back (my fave for 6x7 70mm) I will start testing it again. Also I have been testing 70mm Plus-X Aero 2402, and the five inch as well, the first four sheets of the 4x5, need more exposure, and maybe a little more development. But the film is clean and not fogged at all. Encouraging start. I'm testing again, increasing exposure several stops, and developing once again using ADOX Borax MQ (D76 derivitive, straight and replenished.

This 2402 film does NOT like being developed in an 8x10 Unicolor Unidrum II. Dark marks/lines from the ribs, so next I'll try my single reel JOBO 2500 tank, which will hold six sheets of 4x5 and NO RIBS.

Fits perfectly. And look. NO PERFORATIONS. It's the 2401 expired in 1970. I got it for $60 350 foot roll

Same coloration as my 2402. Next I'm testing D23 1:1 as that worked great previously for me with 70mm 2402. Just sulphite and metol. Soft working this can be a contrasty emulsion

My film is a little bit thin to fit in a JOBO 4x5 reel; I tray processed some (Cesco flat bottom trays six sheets at once) and that went very well for the most part. Need to retest it though

First results. Had a few issues but here it is anyway. Five Inch 2402 Kodak Aero cut down to 4x5. Linhof glass plate holder. Minimal depth of field, I focused on the central buds near center. F/Stop 5.6 or F8 closeup not much DOF. I've been playing with selective focus and LF lenses for a couple of years. ADOX Borax MQ developer which I just mixed up, D76 derivitive. Next time I will use D23 1:1 so we will see.

This is the Makiflex Automatic with 240mm chrome barrel Schneider Tele-Xenar, a 2x3 lens that I have not used much. Graflex RH-50 70mm back 6x7cm/18 exp. Kodak Aerographic Plus-X 2402 type II perfed, developed in Paterson five reel tank with custom twin 70mm reels. D23 1:1 12 minutes at 73F produces a beefy negative easy to print. 8x10 Arista #2 RC developed in Multigrade. Omega DII laser aligned 180mm black Rodagon, I like using the Makiflexes in the studio with my olde Broncolor strobes. Classic Kelly lighting. Depth of ifeld is extremely limited in this setup, but the central buds of the flowers are sharp near the center of the print. This olde film has a softness that I like. Looks vintage and now retro

Just shot a roll through a new to me C33. I'm in middle of scanning and I'll get the results up at some point. Just something I discovered for those of you that are DSLR scanning this stuff. Scanning inverted i.e. the matt side, will give you better results. It seems the glossy side is very susceptible to scratches and by scanning through the non-glossy side of the film you can avoid most of the scratches.

Check out the movie camera. Fellow said it's loaded with 16mm Sonic 25.



16x10 crop of a square. I think it worked better.

Inverting to scan (or in my case print) might eliminate the scratches. Sort of delicate film base backside not liking it. The scratches could be out of focus when you scan. Your new stuff looks very neat and clean. Great job. Encouraging.

Yes, I inverted the scan. Seems to have worked for the most part.

I seem to always get this effect in the sky with this film though. It works for the subject so I'm not bothered too much, but I'd like to know what causes it.


Don't mind the finger print. This stuff is very delicate.
